For those who haven't been mindlessly browsing Aspyr's support site, it appears they've released a beta universal patch for SimCity 4: Rush Hour.

Let the much delayed fun commence :-)

Did anyone get a chance to try it? Does it improve performances?

The honest answer is 'not for me'. However: I have a MBP with the ATi X1600, and Aspyr note in the release notes than ATi performance is distinctly sub-par. It certainly performs graphically (e.g. scrolling) significantly worse than my iBook 1Ghz used to.

I e-mailed them with feedback and they responded to the effect that they were aware of it and were working with ATi and hence hoping to resolve it prior to release.

Hopefully those with MacBooks and GeForce cards will find they have a little more success...

=/ There are no MacBooks with NVIDIA chips.

I'm sure we all know that...the statement might have been slightly better worded as "Hopefully those with MacBooks/Minis or those with GeForce cards".... :)

Indeed. Sorry, sloppy language - the 'and' should have been an 'or'. I was thinking of those lucky buggers with too many Xeons for their own good :-)

So far working pretty darn well - only a minor sound glitch in the background, and the City doesn't grow in the background. Perfectly acceptible.

Wooohooo! (And it runs faster than on my older Powerbook G4!)

Even get "decent" performance running SC4 and Parallels at the same time!
