On Wednesday I bought AoE 3 from Mac Game Store. I asked for 2 day shipping, so I assumed it would get to me on Friday. Well, it turned out it actually shipped on Thursday. I guess that's okay since it takes some time to create the package, and all that stuff. So then I should get it on Saturday, right? NO! Saturday is not a regular shipping day :( oh well, I need to wait until Monday to play AoE 3.

But get this...

I live in Dallas Texas, and the shipment originated from Austin Texas (about 180 miles from Dallas). So, the Fed Ex sent it to Memphis TN, then to Addison Texas. Why was it sent all the way to Memphis when it could have been sent directly to Dallas from Austin? I asked the Fed Ex lady about that and she said that the people shipping the package sent it that way. o rly? Is Fed Ex passing the blame, or is there some sort of mega sort facility in Memphis?

So the bottom line is can MGS offer more or better shipping options?

chances are that two things happened on this.

you placed the order too late in the day to have it shipped out same day. Most companies (in the UK at least) say that the last time that you can place an order for same day shipping is 1PM, sometimes a bit later, sometimes a bit sooner. So basically, to get it within two days you would have had to order it in the morning.

secondly, i imagine that for a country as large as the US, shipping gets filtered down to a smaller and smaller scale, so chances are that everything got sent to memphis for distro across a huge area, and then from there to a more local distribution centre.

as far as i can see, though, theres not really too much point going for the fed ex option anyway. for twice the money you get it shipped to you in up to half the time, but most likely on the same day or only one working day before if youd gone with USPS priority.

the moral of this story is that everything is about timing your order around weekends and non-standard shipping days.
sorry you didnt get your game for the friday.

My EaW copy arrived in a crushed package via US mail. The very nice retail box was busted, plastic shards hanging off of it. I was going to take it to the PO and raise hell, but kept wondering if the DVD was damaged. It wasn't. So, I've got all the stuff that came in the retail box and life goes on.

ive had that problem too. im sure its fedex though. I got my Quake 4 disk in a pancaked box with a giant crack going down the jewel case.

I actually asked Tuncer about it and he said that after they ship it off its in their hands or something like that (it was a while ago).

I recently received Toast 8 via Fed Ex and the outside box was crushed. Inside the actual product box was damaged and torn, but everything inside was OK. Fed Ex is starting to show signs of the pressure of the staggering volume it transports.

Well, the damaged box my game arrived in says USPS, not FedEx.

All FedEx packages go through Memphis. I could FedEx something down the street and it would still get routed through Memphis.

Is it too much to ask, for packaging depts. too use decent boxes with packaging air bags in them?
I've worked in shipping and receiving and it was always so idiotically ironic to see overly well packaged moot items packed way to well, and expensive fragile items packed like a room of complete idiots had the job of packaging and shipping with crappy half assed supplies.

I have to say I haven't had any problems with packages from MGS. Amazon is always good with packaging too (got my Power Mac G5 from them). Maybe your mail people just hate you personally. ;)

Yeah,
Well, maybe next time you order something fragile and it comes smashed, torn, dragged, bedraggled, half-baked, and mangled. You can thank your friendly pre-loader (me) for blowing his stack, while trying to juggle 20 boxes at once and a scanner, coming down a conveyor at break neck speed, trying to load it all on a truck with all trace of organization all but scrapped away and undiscrenable on the shelves, stumbling on make shift steps, half awake at 4:00 in the morning! ;)

Sounds like a purely hypothetical situation to me. I doubt the real world is like that at all. Everything must run like clockwork, filled with happy smiling people, like you see in commercials. Yep. :)

Half-measures, gentlemen, are the product of half-wits!

I know where you're coming from. It's retarded to get some little $5 POS part that's surrounded in air bags, then when I got something that was $1700 it had nothing but foam around it. THIN foam at that. WTF.

For what its worthe most things shipped through fedex to me usually arived in damage boxes, though i have yet to have any damaged products. They did treat my new MBP with care though it seems. As for the TN thing, that is the biggest drawback to using them. All packages shipped through Fed-Ex get shipped to that single plant where they then get shipped out, this is oposed to UPS who use multiple distribution facilities.
