Aspyr Media has released a demo of Star Wars: Empire At War. Set a few years before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope, Aspyr’ Empire at War lets players wage war on the ground and in space, as well as experience the creation of the Rebel Alliance, the strengthening of the Empire and the beginnings of the Galactic Civil War.

The demo, which weighs in at 896 MB is being hosted at our sister site, Macgamefiles.com. The demo contains 5 tutorial levels and gives you a chance to play one galactic conquest map.

The system requirements are as follows:

• Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later
• CPU Processor: Intel Chipset
• CPU Speed: 1.83 GHz
• Memory: 512 MB or higher
• Video Card (ATI): Radeon X1600
• Video Card (NVidia): Geforce 7300
• Video Chipset (Intel): GMA 950
• Video Memory (VRam)

Please note that the demo (and full version of the game, once released) will not work on PowerPC-based Macs.

To download the demo, follow the link below.

I'll grab it tonight, slow atm - even the Pro d/l link.  This should prep me well for my preorder.  :)

Take heart bookman, when we upgrade to intel machines, we certainly will buy the pc version games. Which won't be coming from aspyr.

Still, curious move to only release for the platform that can ignore supposed Mac game publishers rather than the much larger population that can't buy the non-aspyr version, a population of much greater proportions that will be that way for a few more years.

As it seems such a bad business decision, I have to wonder what REALLY is going on. There's  more to this than meets the eye.

Um I believe all this was discussed before and Aspyr explained it quite well. Nothing kooky going on here. It was simple - either they port it to Intel Mac only or none at all.

I own the PC version and yet I'll still probably buy the Mac version because I don't dual boot for gaming. Except for maybe HL2. But even that I'm just waiting for the 360 version.

I was not expecting this.  But it's great to get the demo before the product hits the virtual shelves.

Yeah, and I hate HTTP because some links give me a 404.

There's currently 35 seeds and 165 peers, BTW.

10 min (so far) to download a 35k torrent file.  Now THAT'S overloaded!

~400k/sec download for the torrent, though.  Wheeeeee!
