Well it it is the logo for the Linux desktop environment Gnome. People have made lots of different wallpapers based around it. In fact.. you can probably find it here.

theres some nice desktops on there...
i especially like one called coloured tree, its just a shame that its got a linux tagline (or just a tag line in general) in the corner, that kind of spoils it for me. I hate tag lines...

I hate words in desktops in general I prefer ones that are clean of words just a picture.. makes for less clutter especially since we have enough with GUI elements all over the place like menubars, taskbars etc.

I like it.. it just needs matching app skins for applications like iTunes and Quicktime.

No, the way the Mac used to be.  Looks like Mac OS 9.

It's platinumish but not totally. There was one that was even closer to OS 9 by a themer made Max Rudberg. It's not being updated anymore though. Another one that is similar is Rhapsodized but it too is not being updated anymore. Which is a shame because I liked that theme in particular. Anyway I happen to like the way that looks when overlaid over the OS X interface.

Are you able to always keep your desk that clean? When I clean my desk, it looks good for a few days, but then gets cluttered again.

Found this desktop like three months ago and haven't changed it since (I usually get sick of them after a few weeks). I think you can get it at http://interfacelift.com/.
