The final launch date for Myst Online: Uru Live has been set for Thursday, February 15th. It was already announced that the Mac version of the game is in active development.

If you are a PC user in the US or Canada, you can instantly jump into the last phase of the beta by signing up for GameTap and taking advantage of the special offer of only 99¢ for your first month. If you're in one of the international countries or on a Mac, you can volunteer for the beta in our What's Happening Now section.
Few online games have any chance of denting World of Warcraft's dominance, but Myst Online is ready to take its shot.

Uhm...

It's not april 1st today... what the?

I thought URU online was canned a millenia ago when it hit the PC market and failed? I have all the games, even URU (and its multiple sub expansions), and just seriously love the entire series. Books included. I would so be wonderfully thrilled if this is actually going to finally see the light of day!

It's available now, in the form of a beta, through Gametap. Cyan actually released a new age the other day, with another to follow on the 15th. (otherwise there isn't much to see if you've already played Uru). The Mac version was recently announced, but I have a feeling it won't be ready by the 15th. You can sign up to test it here. Intel macs only though--they're using Cider.

I guess I'm floored or confused. One of the two.

See, I had bought the full boxed set of all things URU a year or so ago... cant recall, its been awhile. It had multiple expansions in it, and was called Myst URU. However, it had nothing to do with online anything. No link, no account, nothing. So, I had thought I also read somewhere that the URU online experience was dropped, and not available anymore.

Hrm. Boy was I mislead! LOL.

No intel mac here though ... so I would have to run this on a *urk*gag*barf*.

You weren't exactly misled. Uru Live did indeed die. Then Cyan moved on to Myst V, and was actually on the verge of closing its doors until Gametap picked Uru Live up again. I actually wrote an article on IMG about this if you're interested.
