Sure man I will be around Sunday; I will have my instant messengers goin, bring up the iChat, the team speak, the RDC for my server, Team Speex, the telephone, the telegraph and the Ham radio.

Actually tho, I do have MAC friendly mods and single player for the MAC RF experience. Amazingly enuf, not too long ago - a chap from France shared with the world instructions on how to use single player maps and in that same remarkable time frame a bloke from Austrailia jumped in with newz that mods can work too.

I have like 400 maps, mods and single player for the MAC RF now. I have had thousands of downloads.

File Front is wonky. There has to be a better methodology for distribution.

What are the dynamics of mirroring?

Generally the way it works is that you have a master site with all the content, which may or may not be publicly accessible. Then you somehow convince people that they want to mirror your content, and they supply a server with enough storage and bandwidth. Then all the mirror sites periodically synchronise with changes that have been made to the master site by downloading all the new or changed data.

heh wow this is intense and precise too :-) I was just offering to host the mods he'd collected over the years. Hate to loose these for us Mac gamers! Good to have many download areas on the net for the future.. Me being simple lol
Hapa Hanu, you recommend anywhere else better than File Front. Unlimited web space makes up for their patchy reliability (imho). Thanks.

Honestly I have done a lot of research, or at least the best internet research that I am capable of, and I cannot find any other service out there that can beat FileFront. It is free with unlimited data space - that much is true. However, their system is flawed and prone to fail. Even when it works, downloading at 11kb/sec is typical. So I am really not impressed.

The last time their system went belly up big time - I lost like 200+ files. grrrrr LOL

Allow me to ask; what is the premiere site for downloading custom maps and mods for the MAC platform & how is their download speed?

As someone that has downloaded a LOT over the years (on a daily basis) for Doom3, BF1942, etc, etc I can honesty say that I get well over 100k/sec on a slower download and my personal max of 311k/sec on more typical days.  11k/sec is kinda bad mate... wonder what's up there?

Though their file manager part is pretty bad.  I have to make real sure that files don't go invisible! For the few I can't see in my folders, a search reveals that they're still there! Weird hmm

btw, use the file manager and seach for a "." (without the quotes!). As every file i've ever uploaded contains a 'dot' in the filename. Great way to compare with what the folders are showing for your downloaders ;-)  I've been doing this now for a couple of days and found quite a few files that i'd forgotten about!  Sorting out and now i think i've got everything 100% again. YEAH!

Bump time
Just thought i'd let the Doom3 players here know of a new update to a great mod: MindKiller. Download here and info specs here. Think i still prefer Doom3X (for that hand gun!) but still a wonderful mod.

See my sig for links... thx

Hi all, here's another bump (tell me if i'm spamming! But this thread started bcos noone knew about AppleCrypt Mods)     Ok, just a quickie about a great mod called Commander Doom v1.2  - it now works on the Mac (ppc). Code compile done today and all seems fine! I'd like to thank the author, Leif, for sending me the sources.

Also, Rotoscope v1.2 now works on the Mac. Though do read the badly-written docs i added into the download. This mod only seems to work when it's run from a launcher script. Doesn't work from the Mods Menu with Doom3... Dunno why!    Mad!

http://web.mac.com/applecrypt/  and files here: http://hosted.filefront.com/striderdm1

Thanks everyone!

ps, Dentons Enhanced Doom3 Mod should be compiled next....

That is so good to hear mate (and a relief!). Thanks : )
There are still files on my FileFront site that have been downloaded zero times, so i get the usual email from FF every month or so that asks if they can delete these.  Sometimes the files contain tons of compiled mods and maps too! I can't understand it  lol  maybe it's just me that thinks they're great?

Cheers for the reply tBG

ps / edit
Just added a humble PREY section plus Reborn Fights Mod for BF1942. Also updated other folders too. Here ends the news update ;-)

You're kidding right?   One of the reasons for moving over to FileFront was that i could put everything neatly into folders, all nicely sorted out so ppl could view and download easily. Most of the mods above are pretty easy to guess which game they belong too and many are for BF1942.. Listing everything with a url would take me ages, pleeeease don't make me do it   And then FF would give me another listing of different mods next month - best get downloading EVERYTHING lol

Thing is, i'm on my holls in April. So if FF send me one of these email during that time then I won't be hear to stop them. Potentially we're talking dozens of files they'd delete! ...I think i'd just give up on them if that happened and return to hosting from my own computer again. And that's got a max upstream of 50k/sec. Oh dear

It's mainly the BF1942, Ghost Recon, Marathon, AvP2, Quake2, SWBF, Wolfenstein3D and MoH stuff. HTH :)

Classic Doom update:
Thanks to the help of Tesseract, Classic Doom (Final) for Doom3 is now out in two versions.

One is for PPC Macs running Doom3 v1.3 (if you update to v1.3A or v1.3.1 then you loose compatibility with the mods that need compiled code that was made for doom3 v1.3).  The other version is for PPC or INTEL Macs running Doom3 v1.3.1 - thanks to Tesseract!

Both are at AppleCrypt now =
http://hosted.filefr...iderdm1/1913144

For PPC Macs running Doom3 v1.3 =
http://files.filefro...;/fileinfo.html

For PPC/Intel Macs running Doom3 v1.3.1 =
http://files.filefro...;/fileinfo.html

Thx,
Strider

edit:
Into Cerberon is now added. Again, two versions - one for PPC Macs running v1.3 of Doom3 and another version for both PPC+INTEL Macs running v1.3.1 of Doom3. (thx again to Tesseract!). Click below....

click on the " + " that says "more details about this file". It'll hopefully inform good details! I hope :] thx

Into Cerberon? GREAT! :)

Is this the same as the 003a release announced on the IC site as "coming soon" as of 3/20? Or maybe a Mac-only version of 003a?

http://www.chmodoplu...m/IntoCerberon/

EDIT:

Is it just me, or do FileFront's big orange Download Now buttons no longer work with Safari this past month or so?

Workaround: I right-click (ctrl-click) the button, copy the address it links to, paste into the URL bar, and hit return. This makes FF downloads work.

003a I'm guessing is just the name for Doom3 v1.3.1 compatibility. It's still v003.. that's my understanding anyhow, Tim didn't give me anyother reason to think otherwise (IC Team Leader).  So AppleCrypt Mod's release is the latest :-)

With regards to this new release for Doom3 v1.3.1 - you'll need to read the docs, as a launcher app is needed (unlike the v1.3 version of IC - this can just be loaded from the Mods Menu). This is something Tesseract is looking into now with Aspyr.

Cheers, Strider

edit,
Safari seems to work fine for me. FireFox does as well, though i've just found a couple of links for some BF1942 sp-maps not working. Grrrr FF offer great file space but are kinda naff with it! lol

Just click the 'download' links while browsing the folders? Click here - http://hosted.filefr...com/striderdm1/ -to start. HTH? :-)

Cool--thanks! Is there an existing thread about this IC release? I don't want to spam this one, but I can't make the .sh script work. It doesn't launch Terminal, and when I drag it into an open Terminal window manually I just get "No such file or directory" despite having verified the path (Games folder in Applications)/

EDIT: I think I got it. I added Games to the path, but the default script also lacked the Doom 3 folder itself, so I just added that as well :) Most people will need to do that I think. And IC did retain my custom res choice from Doom :) Checking it out now...

FWIW here's the script I think would work for most people, who have a Doom 3 folder in Applications:

cd "/Applications/Doom 3/Doom 3.app/Contents/MacOS"
./Doom\ 3 +set fs_game intocerberon +seta com_allowConsole 1

Please relocate this if this is not the place :)

Nah that's great matey, thanks for the info.  I dunno why i edited the script and removed the actual doom3 folder! wow what was i thinking! Just checked it out and sure enough - the doom3 folder is gone. I think i'm going mad!!! lol

Thanks for this nagromme - i'll put a comment on the FF page for the mod

they just wanted a bundle so that all three OS's are supported with one download. I stepped on toes mefinks    didn't mean to of course. The official release should be real close, you won't have long to wait.

As for FF, they're cranky - expect a slow response. lol they're always slow for me!  Btw, try the download links for my Warfront or Road to Rome single player maps. They still don't work for me, so i think i'll delete them and re-upload again..
