from the reports ive heard, Ultra and High arent all that different in the D3 engine.. perhaps give that a go?

as for getting it to use 512mb, I would check out the tweak guide over on macologist (search the forums). this would let you set other things to optimise the performance beyond just the VRAM settings (which I dont think do too much anyway)...

Main difference I heard is high uses texture compression, ultra doesn't.

A thing that I don't like about some tweak guides is they mainly have you shut off everything even if your hardware probably could handle some if not most of those things.

There was someone else here complaining that Mac D3 games would not not support more than 256 Mg of VRAM. Even after modifying the config file, in-game the amount of VRAM recognized was still 256.

Had a quick search, and can't find the thread you're talking about yet. It does look pretty nice in 'High' - it's just I used to run it 'High' on my old Mac and I just want this new one to do something noticeably...uhmm....sweeter.

a tweak guide is designed to get your set up to run things faster... just cos it tells you to do something doesnt mean yuo have to do it smoke... Just pick and choose what you think is appropriate.

my favorite part is how they express a political or current affairs based opinion... and its like "no way could that ever be a real opinion"

I'm sure people are mostly interested in their opinions anyway.

Wow this thread has gone way off-topic...

Anyway, yes I was deeply disappointed at the gaming pavilion this year as well, especially since there was no game tournaments like last year. I talked to a few guys at Feral Interactive and they told me that Apple and IDG couldn't agree on who would be paying for the tournament so it just didn't happen in the end. But if what some others said was true, which is that IDG was placed in charge of the gaming pavilion this year, then it's IDG's fault.

Finally... iPod games? Come-ON!

Sorry for the bump, but I was just bored and looking through my old posts and noticed I made a very similar post last year about my macworld impressions.

Macworld Impressions From 2006

Kinda odd seeing what changed between the years.

I'm still complaining about iPods.
A year has not changed my poor spelling at all.
Oh, maybe they took my advice to use two halls.
Then again they didn't like my idea of putting the iPods and storage in the other hall.
Also making the same topic one year later gets 20x the number of replies.
I still ended up eating on the ground near the restrooms.

That's all, you may go back to your previously scheduled forgetting about Macworld.
