This is a fun little game. It certainly doesn't take much brainpower, but those battles over the princess can be pretty fierce. That is, if she doesn't get away during the whole ruckus. She has some very nice spells with which to defend herself. Overall, I like how each character has its strength and weakness. Those work very well together. The graphics are suitable; they're not that demanding or dazzling, but they work just fine.

I just spent the last three hours or so playing this game (demo) with three other people. :whistling: The AI isn't bad, yet real players are always better. It definitely shows in all the wacky fights. I might even consider picking this one up. Not overly complicated, yet plenty o' fun.

Lol, I read the same thing. I though it had something to do with the lack of new game releases lately...  ;)

So, is this game LANable? It looks like it could be a hoot, the kind of thing my 5 year old daughter would love to watch/assist in playing. If it is LANable and I could perhaps convince/brow beat my wife to play on the G5 while I played against her on the MBP while my daughter cheers 'n' jeers! :D

Unfortunately, the game's multiplayer is only online. I thought about that, too, that this game may make an excellent candidate for LAN. Maybe I'll voice that concern to Stephane. He is one of the guys at Waking Games with whom I've had some correspondence over the last couple of days since there are a few glitches that popped up on my iMac with the full game.

Hey guys,

Once Upon a Time is definately both a LAN and Internet Game :)

The 'Find Games' Button under the Games List in the Lobby will search for BOTH LAN and Internet games and display them to you in the list. The game was designed around having some four player fun with your friends and thus LAN interactivity is a huge part of what makes this game enjoyable.

Hope this answers your questions and lets you have some fun with your friends/spouse ;)

Cheers,

Oops. I know I've looked at the support page a few times, but I must have missed the mention of LAN in question #6. It isn't exactly obvious unless one specifically looks.

It might be a good idea to add a question which specifically addresses LAN games, seeing how on the home page the game is touted for online-play only or maybe just change it to "Four Player Online and LAN play".

By the way, it may be helpful if there was an actual manual file that came with the game, just for such cases. And while the tutorial is relatively good, I found myself switching it off after a couple of minutes because it does interfere quite a bit with the gameplay, so I kept looking at the website's "how to play" (which probably should be easy to make as a quick help file) section and trying things for myself.

You're right!

We noticed when this comment was posted about the fact that information about LAN was somewhat hidden. We'll be adding a section to the Website FAQ about this. The Help text in the Lobby will also display this information and we'll definately be adding a link to the 'How to Play' section in some form come the next patch :)

Cheers,
-Justin

Is this game running on Torque 1.4 or 1.5?  (In other words, is it a Universal Binary?)

I downloaded and played it, and this is definitely a fun little gameplay experiment.  If I can get the rest of my housemates playing, I'll definitely be registering this one.  Playing against AI really sucks, though.  The idiot AI keeps attacking me when the princess is fifty feet from her final objective.

Also, jumping would be really nice.  I keep getting stuck on miniscule tree roots, which is a major pain.

Yes, the game is a universal binary, and it is better played with others, but the AI can be pretty tough in Feral mode.
