Vanbrio Entertainment today announced the release of Bone Act 1: Out from Boneville for the Macintosh. This game is the first installment of an episodic interactive adventure based on Jeff Smith’s acclaimed Bone series. The Mac version was created in partnership with Telltale, Inc., who previously published the title for Windows PCs.

The adventure begins with three cousins – Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone – who become separated in a vast, uncharted desert. One by one, they find their way into a deep, forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures and new mysteries that await them. The Bone books have been hailed by reviewers and educators alike as engaging for all ages.

“The engaging characters and storyline of Jeff Smith’s Bone series make for a very fun and family-friendly interactive adventure,” says Amy Torres, CEO of Vanbrio. “With great gameplay, beautiful animation and sound, fun puzzles and mini-games, all wrapped up in an episodic series, we knew Bone: Out from Boneville had to be on the Mac!”

“We believe the Bone series is the type of creative and innovative content that is really at home on the Mac. The team at Vanbrio did a great job in bringing it there,” added Telltale CEO Dan Connors.
Those interested in Vanbrio’s “Out from Boneville” can download a free demo from Macgamefiles.com. Users can un-lock the full episode for $12.99 without any additional downloads.

:w00t: You know that this actually could mean we will be able to play Sam & Max (the new one, that is) natively on our Macs?

I really like this game! I would buy it if...
Okay, has anyone made it passed the two Rat Monsters? I got them into an endless arguement over quiche, but the dialog just cycled and kinda locked me up. I had the move icon, but Bone would not move for me. He just stood and listened to the arguement. I was not able to open up the game options either (the 'x' in the bottom right corner), even though I had a finger icon when I moused over it. Basically the conversation seemed to freeze the game in an endless cycle! Actually had to force quit to exit. Gah!  :(
What a cool game up until then, tho.

[edit: bought it anyways and will see if I can make it passed my trouble spot. $13 spent on hope! ]
[edit 2: full version working fine :) ]

I absolutely LOVE that game. Bought the full version and currently having dinner at Granma Ben's house. Looking forward to the great spring fair. The graphics are nice, even though the resolution could be higher than 800 x 600. But music and voice-overs are excellent. The puzzles are fairly easy, but that's ok for an episodic casual title. I really hope The Great Cow Race and Sam & Max will also make their way on the Mac. But Out from Boneville is a great start. :)

Okay, just got back to playing it and finished it in short order. Loved it loved it loved it. Easy, but I didn't mind. Kinda of half game and half interactive comic book, but it really does a nice job capturing the flavor of Jeff Smith's Bone stuff (did I just date myself a bit?). A little short, but hey, it's only $13! Now I will begin the anxious wait until we get the great cow race!

I am a big fan of the bone series. I think the game is pretty good considering how it could be but it is impossible to really do the bone series justice in a game. It is just too complicated and there isn't enough real gameplay material in there. I wish the designers had made it require some skill and be a little less scripted.

I guess I just don't like story type games from movies or books.

It also lags horribly on my computer like all other new games.

Monsters do not each Quiche!

Hint: to get away from them you must slowly walk backward when they're not facing you

What is the bone series?  I'm not familiar with it.  If it's not a game, how do you "do" the bone series?
