Assuming this will be ported to Mac, will it run on a MacBook with 1GB of RAM?

For starters, I doubt it will come to Mac, even if it does, it will NOT run on a MacBook, MacBook Pro maybe, but MacBook? Not in a million years.

Why do you doubt that?

Yeah, I'd say it's reasonably likely.

What was the last major id game that didn't have a Mac version again? We have...

Wolfenstein 3D
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Doom
Doom 2
Doom 3
Quake
Quake 2
Quake 3
Quake 4

Albeit we never got any of the mission packs, but Quake Wars is a damn sight more than a mission pack. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Mac version given id's excellent record.

Iridium (MacBook Pro Mid-2012) – 2.7 GHz i7 3820QM / 16GB RAM / 2TB Samsung 850 Pro / GeForce GT 650M 1GB

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

Especially since the direct predecessor ET: Wolfenstein also was ported. Late, but it was ported.

and Aspyr is always looking for games where theyve already ported the base engine so that they have an easier time porting the next game. So Prey isnt out of the window either.

Between the high sys reqs, Bootcamp and dearth of new AAA action games since, I have certain doubts.

This could be a good bellwether for the future of native OSX game ports more 'serious' than AOE III and The Sims 2. Q4 was likely in the works for some time, and perhaps a bit of a trial balloon.

If it is ported, perhaps it'll be the first Gamerhood-only game.

By the way: is ET:QW to be actually sold or will it be a freebie like ET:W? I cannot remember having heard anything about this.

bearing in mind the huge amount of additional work over Quake 4 I'm assuming it will be a payer.

bearing in mind the faultless record of Id games coming to the Mac I'm assuming we will get Quake Wars sooner or later

bearing in mind the huge amount of additional processor grunt it'll probably need I'm assuming it will be the game that makes me buy a Mac Pro

bearing all that in mind, I assume I should stop fooling around on the internet and get on with some work!

@Janischan: It will be actually sold, it isn't a freebie like the other one.

The macbook has intergrated GMA 950 graphics, enough said. I will be lucky if I can run it on my G5 iMac 2ghz with an ATI 9600.

I'm not optimistic about performance on my 2xG5/9800 rig: That's why I think I'll be making poppydog
eyes @ Lady Brixton in about 9 months or so... I think next Autumn will be my target date for a MacPro.

You had better start making those puppy-dog eyes awhile, a good one clocks in at what, $6000?

I hace a PPC Dual 1.8, ATI X800 XT and 3GB of RAM and Quake 4 runs extremely smooth (thanks to the SMP patch specially). Granted that ET:Quake Wars looks like a MUCH larger game on these antiquated G5s  :( .. either way, I bet it has a pretty good chance of getting ported to the mac as well as Prey... I hope

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I wasn't sure where else to put this, and I haven't seen anybody else mention it yet, so...

I read the following quote in a Planet Quake Q&A about ET: Quake Wars today...

Quote

How long after release are the Mac and Linux binaries expected?
Question from McAfee
We donít have a date yet, but the work has been going well. Aspyr has started working on the OS X version of the game and they have it running already. Timothee Besset at id Software did a lot of ground work on the Linux platform and this is benefiting the OS X platform. zinx is helping Timothee with the Linux binaries, so we expect to have the Linux dedicated server ready when the game ships.

Looks like pretty good news to me. Of course, system specs are still a question.

You can find the Whole Q&A here.
