It mentions on the AoE 3 site, if you go to Civilizations->British, it mentions "a small spat with the Americans." Anyhoo, I just found a mod for AoE 3 mod called the "Napoleonic Era." Guess that answers it.

Hi everybody!

We're all most likely well-aware that MacSoft is quite good about bringing over the 'gold' version of a game -- i.e., the original plus expansions.

I've noticed something interesting: the release date of the AoE III expansion Warchiefs seems uncannily close to the release date of the Mac port...

Anyone care to speculate?  ;)

Would MacSoft be able to release a Gold version when the PC version would likely remain seperate for some time to come?
Work: MacBook - 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo - 4GB RAM - X3100 graphics.
Home: Mini - 2.0 Ghz Core2Duo - 2 GB RAM - GeForce 9400 graphics.

Not sure, but (and I could be wrong here) it seemed as if they did that with RoN/Thrones & Patriots.  Well, I see what you mean, though. T&P had already been released at the time, though separately. Aspyr also did it with Desert Siege, though in similar vein.

Certainly makes for interesting speculation, though. : )

I hope they release a gold version, because I think it's unlikely we'd see the expansion released separately. We never got Age of Mythology: The Titans.

To release a "Gold" edition, they need to have the PC released before.

AoE III Mac is coming this month, the PC version of the expansion in Q4 2006. That's october at the earliest.

So, it's safe to say that the Mac version will not include the expansion.

The expansion is slated for release Oct. 2. You make it sound like November or December with 'Q4' ; )  With that, however, it *does* make it seem impossible. Still, we also didn't expect Ensemble would be amenable to having the Havok engine ripped out. ; )

The one huge thing *that* theory has going against it is that I'd forgotten Ensemble is owned by Microsoft.

Well, first of all, it's still possible for the expansion to be delayed, and secondly, Oct. 2 is still after the release of the Mac version of AoE III.

Ah yes, another game I would prefer to buy the Mac version of.

I know ... they have less than two weeks, and yet we really have 0 news or updates since they announced it.

Are we sure it's not September 2007?  :P

Maybe they're waiting for the 10.4.8 update, as that might have something the game needs in it :dunno:

I thought this might interest some: Peter Tamte has given a german Mac gaming site a preview of AoE III. The game is to be released end of october in english, localised versions a little later.

He also gave preliminary system requirements:
1,4 Ghz or faster G4, G5 or Intel CPU
256 MB RAM
64 MB graphics board (no integrated Intel crap)
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later

This is actually lower than I would have expected.

He also mentioned that while the originally released version won't enable Mac<>PC multiplayer, they plan to include this in a very early patch. The scenario editor will be Mac/PC cross compatible for sure.

Yep, same here...in that case, it should play very nicely indeed on my G5 + X800.

That really is low. I'm guessing it's because they had to re-work the insides so much, it gave them more chance to tinker with it to work on the Mac better.

Wow, that is low. Lower than Civilization IV. Looks like my powerbook won't be missing out on this one!
