I merged aussiemacgamers first attempt at this thread with the Marathon IV Rumors thread but he as since begged and pleaded for a chance to author another attempt.  He has assured me that this thread is a serious survey of what you would like to see in the next Marathon, and not to be confused with the fun we were having with the Marathon universe in the rumors thread.

So, if you would be so kind, this thread is only for serious and thoughtful discussion on what you hope Marathon IV will be.  From hereon, any tomfoolery in this thread will be deleted.

Now with that said, I've always wanted the next Marathon to be a rescue mission for Leela.

I don't care what the story is (surprise me!), but I'd like the game to be similar to Marathon 2: fun, atmospheric, interesting and reasonably intelligent but not too caught up in its own obscure metaphysics (*cough*Infinity*cough*).  Maybe tone down the colors a bit though.

• Engine: Unreal 3 (Actually I wouldn't mind the UT2004 engine, but that probably doesn't = Big Sales)
• DRM: We email Bungie our serial no. & Ethernet address, that's it. No DVD Shuffle!
• Features to include  -
*Co-op
*Bots in multiplayer
*Juggernauts!
*Drinniol!!
*Interactive terminals
*Weapon & Pfhor models totally faithful to M2
*All Human & Pfhor weapons usable
*Dual enforcers, dual WSTEMs and, when you absolutely positively need to kill every bug in the room, twin (wildly inaccurate) MA75Bs
*Jumping dependent on loadout: A guy with a Pfhor Staff can jump higher than someone toting the Mullins Minigun. (would make for some interesting level design tricks - do you ditch your SPNKR & jump the ledge? Or go the long way in case you meet a couple'o'Juggies?)
• Shareware Mods: An extra couple of bucks gets you Tempus Irae, Evil, Marathon One, etc..(How about Marathon:Opposing force? Play as a Fighter, a Hunter, an Explod-O-Bob!)
• Voice by Zartman, Box by Mullins.
• As a benefit of the DRM : Global SP Stats. Complete the game on legendary using only your fists & the world knows about it!

Retrieving Leela sounds like a plan. Although I'd settle for more or less a repeat of the M2 campaign again...

One of the things that made Marathon great were the level creation and physics tools. These were infinitely adaptable; look at the great conversions: entire new games could be created with new sets, new aliens, new weapons. After having seen level creation tools for more advanced games and realizing how difficult they are to learn and how hard it is to build levels with them I desipair of there ever being another Forge or Anvil, which easy to use and capable of building very complex levels.

But I still hope.  :)

Believe it or not, what I'd MOST like to see is a Twin Snakes-esque remake of the original Marathon on a modern engine with all modern technology. Of course, with some extra levels and the like so it's not just eye candy that's new, plus great netplay, some action down on the colony proper (can we say UESC Plasma Hovertanks? OOH), etc.

Actually, for that matter that'd also be an awesome Marathon IV in its own right... you know what happened on the Marathon. Now you see what happened down on the Tau Ceti colony. Lead a squad of the 9 Mjolnir Mark IVs and defend the colony against the Pfhor invasion.

Iridium (MacBook Pro Mid-2012) – 2.7 GHz i7 3820QM / 16GB RAM / 2TB Samsung 850 Pro / GeForce GT 650M 1GB

Eric5h5:
When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

Along that line Frost, planetside is where the Mjolnir equipment factories are located.  I'd like to see some Deus Ex like RPG-decision-tree bio enhancements and skills for the cyborg.  Decide what attributes to enhance and how to develop the character you control as well as pick and choose which weapons mods he buys and uses.

Anyway, what have you got even against the H2 engine aside from the console aspects?

it made me feel small weak lonely and as if i was questioning my sexuality   it sucked compared to the H1 engine.
and while the visuals were good...they didnt look good.
M4 will probably be a vamped up version of the H2 engine (just as halo 3)

and check out marathon resurrection. Theyre getting close to having remade all the original levels from marathon into a mod for UT... nearly... Its a different feel, cos you can jump and theres no auto-map, but its still pretty good...

On the other hand, I'd like to have all the same weapons as in Infinity.  I really like the balance of those weapons.  Bungie rules at balance.  I'd want to carry all the weapons at the same time, hell, I'd want to USE all the weapons at the same time.  I'm a freakin' cyborg after all.

What? just those weapons?

;)

I could stand to lose the flechette thingy, I'd love to have twin MA75's (balance comes from the degradation of accuracy that even a cyborg would suffer) and which mod was it that had the Pfhor Staff? Evil? That was boss!

Oh, and can you add to my master list:

I would like to see, not just in Marathon 4 but in lots of games, the ability to pick up rudimentary objects and  use them as crude weapons.

ie; chairs, lamps, frying pans, tree limbs, et cetera...

Consider the satisfaction!
