So, in Terminal (OS X 10.4), I can't enter my password.  I can type in text and enter commands, but as soon as it prompts me for my admin password, i can't enter text anymore in Terminal.  Help!

edit: ok, now i feel silly.  terminal just doesnt show characters while entering a password.  i think i still need help though.

it seems to accept the password, but i cant get the command im using to work.  I'm trying to change my MAC address, using this command: sudo ifconfig en0 ether theaddress

i dont get a confirmation message, but it accepts it- but its still the same when i check my address in system prefs, even after a restart.  what am i doing wrong?

1) This is not the best forum to be asking these types of geeky questions. You'd have better luck some where like the MacFixIt Forums. (Not to bust on the IMG geeks here. )
2) Why are you trying to change your MAC address? That is not something an average user needs to do. I don't want you to screw something up and cause your ethernet interface to completely stop working.
3) Enter "ifconfig en0" in Terminal before and after you try to change your MAC address. Compare the before and after "ether" lines.
4) I'm not sure if changing MAC addresses is persistent across restarts.
5) I'm not sure if you can change the MAC address of any ethernet interface, or if the hardware must support it.

The hardware and drivers must support it if you use ifconfig. Most drivers don't support it, I'm not sure if Apple's do or not.

Uh, it's a perfectly legal, though questionably ethical, enterprise involving an exceeded bandwidth limit and a university network.
