As promised in another post, and with the most gracious consent of our Emperor BattleCatus, I hereby declare this little self-serving spot of delirious total (Rome) joy now officially open. As stated in an earlier post in another thread ...

Rome Total War runs beautifully. Damn I'm so happy!!!!!
</weepingwithjoy>

I am still at work at the moment but will be home within an hour and will be linking to pictures I took showing three screens of the game running full tilt on our 17" iMac at work. We turned most of the graphics options high as well and it runs very nicely with only the 1GB of RAM and stock 128MB video card.

I am in the process of saving a few hundred more for a 20" of my own (to replace my "dated" G5) and then will continue to annoy people by posting screen shot after screen shot.

I tell you all, I am really, really happy. Let the game(s) begin!!!!

PS. Toga shot will follow as per request  :D

Sorry, but let me surmize: you are playing a year (two year?) old PC game on Intel hardware under Windows XP and expect... what? You bought the most expensive, underpowered PC you could and we should applaud?

The whole Total War series is great though. Good to see that it runs OK on old ass hardware.

Without further ado ...

OMG!  I just pooped my pants!

and

These settings are more confusing than Spongebob the Movie: the Game

These were the default settings that we later cranked up and it still ran fine, and finally ...

:D  :D  :D

Yes, dojoboy, yes.

and finally ...

Doesn't work!  I can't get rid of this thumb-like graphic artifact!!

That's just me shaking (quivering?) with excitement, I assure you. The screen is crisp and sharp.

If I have to be honest (and with apologies to the guys at Freeverse) err, no. Not really. Not anymore.

Now I have to go and buy the full version (including the Barbarians expansion), get the Total Realism mod running, and lose myself for a few months.

As long as we're being honest, I have to ask: if it was this important, what was the point in not getting a Windows box?  You could have been playing RTW on Windows a long time ago.  Now you're playing RTW on...Windows.

About CDN$1,000-1,300. My, err, CFO wouldn't allow that sort of purchase when we're working on one income with two kids and a mortgage to play one game for two hours a week. No sir-ee.

But per my first post ... my wife's cousin wants my all-but-new G5 iMac with iSight and will pay me to set it up for him. So he'll buy a new Intel version for me, send it to me, and then I'll drive the reformatted G5 down to him. And he'll pay me full price so I'm out nada. I may go up to the 20" with 256 card for a few hundred more as my company would pitch in the rest for all the brilliant work I do.

As happy as I am for you, if one is talking about PC games, one really needs to be on a PC gaming forum.

Oddly, I seem to see a Mac in those screens. Strange days indeed.

I don't know what happened. I played through Medieval Total War, thinking I died and went to heaven. It was a no brainer to preorder Rome TW, but for some reason I think I've burned out on the concept. However I've not sold it yet.  Controlling close to a thousand troops can be fun. :)

Today, at lunch, I have purchased my copy of RTW: Gold Edition. I will install this weekend and take photos til you wished you'd never heard of the game. And yes, the famous toga shot is coming up too.

I may only install the game (with Barbarian Invasion expansion) and then the Rome Total Realism mod first.

Happy, happy, happy.
