Interesting news.  The MBP line has already been updated.  If you have standing orders for a 1.67, you get bumped to 1.83.  1.83's get bumped to 2.0.

2.0's have the option of calling and asking to get bumped to 2.16, and the new price points are:

1.83 - $2,000
2.00 - $2,500
2.16 - $2,800


An odd development... given that I had a 1.83 in the queue, I guess I now have a 2.00 on its way.  This should apply to all orders that haven't shipped yet, that were placed before 2/13.  So, Tomatocow, I guess you and I have something to rejoice!

Or... lament... do you spring for the extra $300 for the bump in speed?

And to make room for the announcements (on or before April 1st) of the two new iBook models ... the lower end one with a Core Single 1.67 and the upper end one US$1249 with a 1.67 Core Duo. That's now differentiate the lines well. You'll see.

Does Apple now ship the MacBook Pro with Intel's flagship CoreDuo, or is there a chip available with even higher clock speeds than 2,16 GHz?

But it's a good sign for current and future Macs. Apple seems to be eager to always deliver the best chips Intel can offer at a given time. Now people can compare Vaios or ThinkPads to the MacBooks, so Apple needs to stay high-end and give its customers bang for the bucks.

I think there are also 1.5 and 1.6 low voltage versions suitable for a MacPocketBook

I just got an email from the Apple Store saying my 1.83GHz will shipped as the 2.0GHz model

2.16 is the top of the line right now for all manufacturers ... those that run 'Doze and those that run OSX.

no upgrade on the imacs though, oh well it wouldn't matter any way, i already got mine.

and there is still no 17" or 12" on the MBP! whats up with that?!

I'm sure Apple will be releasing a 17" variant later and maybe a smaller version too. but honestly it makes sense that Apple is keeping things simple right now. By making the MacBook Pros all in one size Apple only has to worry about one size of casing, one size LCD screen, etc. It is cheaper for them to initially release only one size. Then when demand for these laptops has grown large enough and people have given up their fears of UB and Rosetta, Apple will wow us with the MacBook Pro XL.

BTW, did you check your order?  Mine just got delayed b/c of the change.  Now they're saying my estimated ship is 3/3 and estimated receipt is 3/10!

when i ordered my imac it said estimated shipping date 2/15 and estimated received by 2/23. i got my imac on 2/9, so don't be worried, these are not the most optimistic estaminets.

and those estimates are down right miserable if that addition of a week or 2 holds true across the board... luckily, the reality is far removed it seems...

Sorry, I was busy trying to catch tBC. No, I didn't upgrade my order to a 2.16. I suppose I could, but I'm lazy like that. And yes, I saw that the delivery date has been pushed back. Mine ships on 2/28 and arrives on 3/6. Haha! Tomatocow is the winner!
