Wow, that's one hell of a processor speed requirement.
So much for those with recent consumer-class Macs.

That is a high processor speed requirement.  However, I believe the PC requirements were for a 2 GHz Pentium 4 or 2000 AMD.

Hopefully, consumer-level Macs will not become high-end gaming obsolete so quickly once they all have Intel processors.

...those requirements are barely above those of Doom 3's, which I run pretty smoothly on my setup which isn't too powerful at all... nor does it necessarily meet the system requirements.

I'm still going to try it... :P

Actually, the specs are very very low.

I think some leeway must have been found by ensuring that only the top of the range G4 powerbooks can play the game, most of these have 128mb VRAM if im not mistaken. Also any computer with a 5200FX is excluded, so the initial imacs are out, but newer ones are supported, whilst any tower owner would need to upgrade.

Overall id say excellent job aspyr.

And even tho im on a 800Mhz cube with Geforce 2, i found the Doom 3 demo alright, and im always up for an interesting challenge, so ill give the Q4 demo a go too (though i do plan on getting a proc upgrade or just a Rev B Macbook)...

Thank goodness the recent consumer-class Macs easily bypass those requirements.

I thought the reqs sounded low too. My 2+ year-old PowerBook very nearly meets those specs! (But that's a mobile GPU--and I already know Doom doesn't run that great on my machine.)

So, will this not run AT ALL on my computer because I have a Radeon 9000?

In my experience, games usually DO "run" on systems lower than reqs... if your standards are very low, or if you just want to mess around until you get a faster machine. Doom III runs on my machine that doesn't meet specs--well enough to make the demo fun, but not enough to get through the whole game. (So I'll buy it when I get a new Mac.)

Trying the demo (will there be one for Q4?) is the only way to know for sure just how your machine will perform.

I know, I mean Doom3 ran surprisingly well on my eMac.
But there were moments where it chugged a bit, and even those with G5's experienced some hiccups here and there.

I'm very happy with this. Job well done Aspyr!
I barely make the requirements on my 1.67 PowerBook so I'm looking forward to a demo.
But, looking at al the fun displayed, heck, I think I just buy it anyway.

I am excited by this.  On the other end, when i had my 1.67ghz/128mb 9700m powerbook, it did not play doom to my satisfaction.  I find it hard to believe that quake 4 would...

Perhaps this is another shot below the waist (when it comes to sys req), Aspyr...

Or perhaps Aspyr removed advanced shaders, disabled FSAA, or cranked back all the AI algorithms that RavenSoft was touting.

But, no matter what, i'm gonna own this game.  I just hope it plays on my powermac and new 1.83ghz macbook (if that ever gets here).

Which one will arrive first? Quake4? or Macbook? lol

I think the answer lies in "to your satisfaction." Some people find gaming at minimum specs to be still fun. Others find it unacceptable. A personal call.

As for removing detail, that's always an option, and that's what you must do if you have minimum specs. But the detail options aren't gone, they can still be used by people with higher machines.

with these SINGLE processor specs I'm pretty confident my dual 1,8 with 9600xt will do the trick for me as quake 4 was going to be patched for multi processors. (and I ordered an x800xt :P )
Maybe Glenda Adams is willing to confirm the succesfull implementation of the "smp patch" ?
anyways GREAT job Aspyr!

Any idea if it supports dual core CPUs like the PC version does?

Do they mean 06? I don't think it is set to ship 10 months ago.
