Spiderweb Software has released a beta v1.0.1 patch for Avernum 4 and a new Blades of Avernum user created scenario. The beta patch fixes several bugs and enhances graphics in the game. The new scenario for Blades of Avernum, Magus of Cattalon pitches you against rogue magi and is medium difficulty with a Teen content rating.

1-30-2006: A new Blades of Avernum scenario has been added. You can download Magus of Cattalon from our Untried Blades of Avernum page.
1-30-2006: We have released a tentative, beta v1.0.1 for Avernum 4 for Macintosh...it fixes a variety of irritating bugs and adds some improved graphics. If you have any problems with the new version, let us know.

I was kind of holding off for a day until I heard from others.
So far, some of the people at the Spiderweb forums are reporting stable performance with no issues.
I hear that the Chitrach creatures have been redrawn in this update.

Yeah, and the infinite Absyinthe problem was fixed also. If you you want to exploit this "valuable" bug I would hold off

How would one go about exploiting this bug... er, out of scientific curiosity...

1. Find Absyinthe
2. Kill Absyinthe and his minions
3. Snatch sword and equipment off Absyinthe's now-lifeless body
4. Head to a town and sell these valuable items
5. Return to where Absyinthe was and lo and behold, there she is again (minus her minions)!
6. Repeat steps 2 through 4 as many times as you wish for a tidy profit!

Cool.  I like tidy profits.  Does this continue to increase your experience?  Where in the game is Absyinthe?

I don't recall if you get experience from beating Absyinthe repeatedly, but if she's significantly more powerful than your party then the answer is yes.  

She's in the southern portion of the world.  Start from the Castle, head south and look along the south walls for entrances to bandit lairs.  Be careful because these underground lairs are teeming with more than just bandits.

I'm cleaning out the Honeycomb right now.  It'll be a while before I'm south of the Castle.  Thanks.
