Aspyr Media has officially announced that they will be publishing Call of Duty 2 for the Macintosh. Originally developed by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty 2 for the Mac is being ported by the internal team at Aspyr and is scheduled to be released in May 2006.

Here's more from the PR:

Call of Duty 2 re-defines the cinematic intensity and chaos of battle as seen through the eyes of ordinary soldiers fighting together in epic WWII conflicts. The sequel to Call of Duty, the 2003 Game of the Year and winner of more than 80 awards, Call of Duty 2 offers more immense, more intense, more realistic battles than ever before, thanks to the stunning visuals of the new Call of Duty 2 engine.

Call of Duty 2 provides an amazing experience with all-new enhancements, ranging from stunningly realistic graphics to seamless gameplay, a new engine, groundbreaking AI, and choice-based innovations that allow players to experience the closest thing they’ll ever get to real warfare. Beautifully rendered snow, rain, fog, and smoke, combined with dynamic lighting and shadows, make this the most intense WWII first person action title yet.
Be sure to stay tuned to IMG for more on Call of Duty 2 in the coming days.

What great news. What could make it better? The Mac version being up to speed and compatible with the PC version. You never know... ;)

//Irony mode on
Oh great, another dumb shooter, making our kids more violent and portraying mayhem as good.
Why can´t we have more family-oriented titles and sims promoting peace , goodwill and reason?
//Irony mode off

Nice, will make for some happy fragging.

Sims promoting peace? All the sims promote is multi-managing and sex. Most of the time you are trying to multi-manage your sim to have sexual relations with the neighbor, mailman or that person who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. At least this is what I did.

Im shall be looking forward to this game. nice call aspyr.

Ditto that, but still not quite the right debate points...

Anyway, that's great. When? How (will the multiplayer work)? What will it cost?

etc. etc.

I've heard a lot of mumblings that CoD:UO is still best.

Even though we knew this already, this is great news to me.  I love CoD and CoD:UO (play it every day).

The single player in CoD 2 is great.  The multi-player is a step backwards in many areas from CoD:UO and it also currently without PunkBuster (anti-cheat) support.

-) Which part of "Irony mode on" did you fail to understand?  :D
-) Also I was not talking about "The Sims" but simulations generally.

As much as I love COD and UO I have my doubts on the current mac systems being able to push this game. Here hoping for a miracle!
The Mail Man Cometh!

Always remember the following:

1. Lock em, Cock em, and Rock em!

2. Everyone hates a Redneck until their car breaks down.

3. REDNECKS: AMERICAS PITBULLS!

That's a bummer, Mail Man; anyone have any comparative info on previously published sys. reqs. on PCs vs. Macs, and actual FPS rates, etc.? Like, can we get a "well, a 1.67 GHz G4 is close to a 2.33GHz Pentium, so it could work, and a G5 is..." blah blah, you know, like, what do you all think the minimum G4/G5 and graphics cards (including mobile)?

Speculate.

Don't quote me on any of this speculation, but here are the PC requirements for COD:UO:

Pentium III 700 Mhz or Higher
32 MB 3D Video Card

And for Mac:

G4 or later 867MHz or faster
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 7500 or better
Video Card (NVidia): GeForce2 MX or better
Video Memory (VRam): 32 MB or higher

Here are the PC requirements for COD2:

Minimum Requirements

1.4 GHz Prozessor (Celeron / Duron)
ATi Radeon 9200 / GeForce 4

Optimum Requirements
2.5 GHz Prozessor (Athlon XP / Pentium 4)
ATi Radeon 9800XT / GeForce FX 5900

Of course this isn't very scientific, but it might be a start.  Personally, I'm at that point where I'm such a COD goon that I'll be a better Mac just to play COD2.  Yeah, I know.  I need help.

The PC version can make a 7800GTX cry if you whack the settings up, GPU seems to be the single most important factor for performance, the graphics card that will let you run this at (the absolute) full whack without dropping frames doesn't exist yet, no surprises here then...

The Xbox 360 version is a stonking conversion, all the effects are there, right down to the belching smoke, very little slowdown, and looks great at 720p on an HD telly, (although it looks like they sacrificed the AA, the jaggies are noticeable in Hi Def). Very impressive, especially for a launch title.

So, the first PPC platform to get it does it very nicely, and the first intel platform to get it can sing sweetly - if you throw a lot of money at your rig.

Now all we have to do is figure in the port overhead, and were golden.

Correction to this story- the development is being done for us by i5Works, not an internal Aspyr team.  i5 is doing a great job on it, and is due proper credit.
