This has been troubling me for a while, could someone name a "average FPS" for me? I cannot think of a single one, every single FPS I have played, has something new and interesting in it, I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a "average FPS".
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Elite Force... very average.

Medal of Honor: Spearhead is average. Try the demo. The multiplayer is addictive.

Spearhead is great to play online, as for Elite Force that was basicly one of the very few star trek games that didn't stink.

With the exception of the GeoMod feature, Red Faction was very average.

That's not true, and I take that personally.

RedFaction was groundbreaking.

I haven't played yet but everything I've read points to Quake 4 being very average. I would also put Elite Force 2, Red Faction, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Pariah, Sin, Unreal 2 and probably many more I can't think of right now into the average category. They are all fun to play and have their fans but are not groundbreaking.

K.I.S.S. Psycho Circus (Sega Dreamcast).

Below average in every aspect.  No new elements, no new concepts whatsoever.

See, it's people like this guy who give FPSes bad reputations.

I know I'm biased, but if you say RedFaction isn't ground breaking, you have absolutely no purpose judging FPS games.

Some people still see all FPSes as Doom ripoffs.

Haha you pissed off the game tester for that game. Personaly I thought it was cool because at that time there wasn't a lot of fps on the ps2 and also you could break walls.

Get RF1... RF2 was actually quite crappy compared to RF1.  But, RF2 does have some amazing rail shooting missings.

I recently picked up RF1 for the Mac for like $3.99 or something like that.  It came from a post here on the IMG forums... doubt the sale is still in effect though.

Oops. No offense intended, but even though the mechanics were all there, the story, and the entire plot progression, were awful.  For me to consider the game more than average, I have to actually find it interesting. So, obviously, above average FPS: Deus Ex, Max Payne, Undying, and maybe XIII. Though I will happily admit the vehicles in RF were great.

MoH:AA became average after CoD came out. But I am just one voice.

...and it had explosives you could stick to people,

but one of the better weapons to come out of the game was the rail gun.  Exceedingly far above average.  Careful use of the rail gun will give you an awesome advantage.  Always keep it handy to scan for the location of the enemy behind walls and rock.

I would put Halo under the "average fps" category.  As good as a story/plot it told, I can't think of anything that makes it stand out.  Medal of Honor series is the same as well, but I enjoyed MoH:AA more than Halo, I think.

...and it had a boring plot

...and it had terrible voice acting

...and it had uninspiring characters

This is all subjective, so I'm not going to argue the point too far - but a game can be groundbreaking (introduce some new things) and be mediocre at the same time.

I see... you guys are looking at the game more like a movie, than a game.  That's cool, and I agree with you somewhat in that area.

But, to me, story doesn't make or break a game.

All you Red Faction fans, what did you think about the N-GAGE version of Red Faction?
