Is there an easy way to "select similar units"? If I've place six new infantry units on top of a squad of tanks, I have to carefully click each health bar to do so, which gets hard once their health all evens out. Likewise, is there any way to "batch place" a group of new units (same type) in a province?

I don't know if there is an easy way (or maybe I'm just forgetting). I just got so used to clicking through and looking for the desired unit types. With aircraft I usually just kept them in a different province so I wouldn't get confused with my land troops.

I managed to obtain a copy of stony road as a rar today, but it fails to load, for which reason I don't know. I'm curious if HOI2 still only reads the first 32 characters of a file name, or if that problem got fixed.

Well, it wasn't precisely a "problem", it was OS 9 compatibility requirements. That got dropped with Victoria so all the later games ought to be good with whatever names you like.

I've played Hearts of Iron II for several days now, and I've come to the conclusion that it's an almost perfect game. Paradox managed to take out everything that made Hearts of Iron I frustrating. Compared to the original, micromanagement is minimal, research is less convoluted, and combat makes much more sense. It's definitely their most solid and playable game thus far.

-- I definitely agree that the gameplay is *much* improved (although i wish they'd spent a little more time on graphics, esp. sprites, which are sorely lacking compared to the original) --

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered what looks like a bug w/ land battles -- in the land battles i've fought, none of the little 'special modifier' icons show up in the space beneath the commanders' portraits -- the 'river crossing,' 'overstacked,' 'special ability' icons etc.  They show up fine in air & sea combat, but not in land (??).  Is anyone else experiencing this?  It doesn't seem like land combat conditions are being taken into account. For ex. i attacked an enemy across a river, and not only did no river-crossing penalty icon show up, but the readout said my troops were attcking/defending with 100% efficiency, which makes no sense.

One other little thing -- the upgrade system seems a little too zealous about making all your units state of the art... when i allocated resources to upgrades, it started upgrading all my Level 2 tac.bombers to Level 3 (even though Level 2 is not "obsolete" yet) -- ?

There certainly are a few new quirks that I'm going to have to get used to (or just find out how they are supposed to work, rather than how I think they work). But otherwise, though I haven't gotten around to combat yet, the game seems much easier to play from a micro-management standpoint compared to the last one. I will have to get into this some more, but I foresee many nights of "Oh my god, where did the last 7 hours go?" from now.

I haven't been able to get on their forums for months- their email system never sends me an email!

Does anyone know if/when we'll be getting the 1.3 patch? The changes look great...

I won't fight the USA for a good long while I reckon. My game last night just turned 1937, but the event that starts the war against China is still a few months off.
