Apple has included a page on Stubbs the Zombie in their games section. Matt Soell is the Wideload spokesman for Apple's presentation of Stubbs. Be prepared for such witticisms as:

“You could say it’s about the futility of fighting against entropy — you can’t build a wall big enough to keep the zombies out, so chaos wins in the end. You could say it’s about love conquering all. Or you could combine the last two and say that if chaos conquers all and so does love, then love equals chaos. Raging, undead chaos that gobbles your brain right out of your head.”

and:

“Ultimately, it’s a love story, and, as we all know, love means never having to say you’re sorry for eating the brains of people you don’t even know and destroying their city.”

Good stuff.

Hmmm...I don't even like zombies, and I'm starting to get interested. Ah, the power of marketing!

The beauty of this game is that it's not about hating zombies, it's about hating humans.  Something the human race has been perfecting for millennia.  Farting so hard the shingles shake loose is just icing on the cake!

It's all about love, gut bombs and unholy flatulence. Who could resist? {sniff}

{sniff} Well apparently SOMEONE couldn't resist a little unholy flatulence.  You could have waited until you logged off the forums.  Criminy.  I just got my whiskers straightened too.

At least I held back on the gut bombs. 26-year-old pepperoni, you DON'T want to know about.

A long time ago, back in the 70's I used to refer to farts as gut bombs.  ex: When someone felt one coming on he'd say something like, "I just lit the fuse on a gut bomb" and everybody else would clear out or push him out of the car.  Now in this topsy turvy world, they are two separate thingys.  Zombies are very complicated creatures.

Back in the glory days of Myth I used to fantasise about playing a FPS version - ideally as a wight.

It looks like I'm about to get my wish.

The first screenshots look promising. But the sys. req. are high. Wondering if the game will be playable with lower specs.

The Worg Stubbs/Glenda Adams interview goes into that kind of thing, and Stubbs Mac/PC will look better than on Xbox where all screens so far have come from.

System requirement question....

I meet or exceed all requirements except for the video card.  I have an ATI 9000 and the requirement is an ATI 9500.  With dual 1.25 processors and 768MB of RAM, will I get by?

Thanks

I can't quite decide how excited to be about this game: On the one hand those guys have never let  me down, on the other I'm not sure whether I fancy the idea of a 1st Zombie non-Shooter…

What's the general feeling? Pre-order? Wait for the demo? Something in-between?

There are plans for a demo, you could wait and see.  I pre-ordered though, having one of the fastest Macs around makes a guy kind of cocky.

If you read between the lines a bit, there are more similarities to its parent than you might think. Stubbs can use vehicles including the Sod-O-Mobile (hover-warthog with driver-controllable cannon-thingy in place of the chaingun) & M26 Pershing tank (reskinned Scorpion); gutbombs stick to targets (wonder if they fizz like plas nades?); Stubbs' head makes a bigger bang (frag 'nade meets SNKR meets bowling ball). Plus zombie strength (breaking down doors) and zombie possession, sending your hand ahead to possess folks, and all those cute Grunt- er, bots, with 12,000 recorded clips of 'comedy gold' and 'the world's deadliest barbershop quartet.'

You're just restarting Halo with your new videocard... what's to decide? :)

I have an ATI 8500. So me too I am under the minimum specs. I want to wait before buying a new mac or a new video card. ATM, I decided not to buy this game: just waiting for the demo.

Worg: Final system requirements were released today [10/21]...

Glenda: We did release final system requirements. They are higher than Halo PC & Mac, most particularly in video card. The sheer number of pixel shader operations Stubbs does per frame is staggering, and the older video cards just can't handle them. So we're going with 64mb DX9 level cards as the minimum.

Worg: So no support for the DX8-level GF3/ Radeon 8500?

Glenda: We won't support these older cards unfortunately, due to the amount of pixel shading processing required by Stubbs.
http://www.wideloadg...05/glenda2.html

Mention is made of potential for a fixed-function pipeline, and of technology additions possible via patch. Together it seems that Mac Stubbs will not support less than late-model videocards on launch, but a way might be found to support them later.

If I can run DOOM 3 on my Radeon 7000 with 256 of RAM, you should be able to run Stubbs just fine.

Hmm... grain of salt called for, I think, especially since Stubbs is more demanding than Halo in the videocard department, and currently does not support even the 8500, let alone the 7500. I'm confident the 7000 will never be supported. Without hardware T&L, it does not even pass muster for DX7.
