It had been mentioned before that Myst V: End of Ages would be the last game of the Myst series, but few expected it to be the last title from Cyan Worlds. With the final Myst adventure game to be released this Fall season marks an end to the popular adventure game series and the fall of its developer, Cyan Worlds. In a turn of events, a Cyan World's employee posted in his blog stating that a nearly all of the company's employees were laid off with the exception of Rand Miller and Tony Fryman. The financial woes and lack of funding for future projects was just too much to keep the company afloat. The company is still barely alive, just not fully functional as they still do not have financial backing for their other projects. Below is an excerpt from the blog.

Almost all of Cyan Worlds, Inc. was laid off today, including me. I know with the talent we have here people will find new places to go and do great things. Itís sad to see a company with such talented people to basicly expire. I donít blame anyone for it happening. So today we had a company meeting in which Rand said some kind final words. Then we had a hamburger and goodbye gathering. Over the last few weeks leading to this point many of us had the hope that something would come up, but it didnít happen. I will try to stay in Spokane as long as I can. I got some really good things going for me right now here and I hate to see that just dust in the wind.
On a related note, the book based on the Myst games will most likely be published despite the recent events concerning Cyan Worlds.

Aaaaah! No no no no no no nooo! Cyan was one of the few game makers who didn't think that they had to add violence and sex to make a game for mature players.
