I was wondering if anyone had tried this mouse out, and what they thought of it. It seems to me that it has all of the functions of a normal gaming mouse, but I havn't even tried it yet. Would this be a good gaming mouse? |

QUOTE(prohaq32 @ August 5th 2005, 07:27 AM) I've talked with a few gamers that have gotten their hands on them, and the consensus has been no. The comment I've heard repeated several times now is that you can't have your finger(s) resting anywhere on the mouse for it to register a "right" click. -------------------- Peter Cohen, pcohen@macworld.com

I have the Razer Diamondback for my gaming mouse and Logitech MX1000 for everything else and when this came out I thought that it sure looked cool which most Apple products do but I wasn't going to get a third mouse.
The Razer mice are still my favorite for gaming. -------------------- Honor but above all, Loyalty.

Seriously, I think that the Razer Diamondback and MX1000 are pretty pointless upgrades (marketing overkill). Don't get me wrong--I'll definitely get a laser mouse when the price comes down just for the sake of the microscopic benefit it provides. As long as you have a relatively new optical mouse that has enough correctly-positioned buttons, it's all in your hand. If they sold an upgrade for my hand, then I'd buy it.
Prohaq, I'd buy an Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 and a Nostromo n52 if I were you--they're both about $25 online if you know where to look (ask me if you can't find them), and they'll help you a lot more than just getting a Diamondback (and absolutely blow that pitiful Mighty Mouse out of the water). -------------------- Bryan Clodfelter

Depends what games you play really. I play a lot of Call Of Duty rifles only games and I guarentee you that the diamondback improved my game dramatically over my previous logitech optical. |

The MX1000 is a wonderful mouse but only if you are right handed - it's more comfortable than any other mouse I've used simply because of the shape.
And yes - if you play alot of FPS you will notice the difference with the Razer mice. Oh yes - I have the nostromo n52 as well and that is a priceless upgrade but really geard towards FPS players even though you can use it for other games as well. -------------------- Honor but above all, Loyalty.

is the logitech 510 any good for gaming or just as a mouse in general?

It's not going to be a good gaming mouse. The feel is the same as a the current pro mouse, with a scroll ball as well. The whole mouse clicks down with any kind of click, and the 'sensor' part detects if it was a right click...and your fingers on the left side of the mouse need to be up at that point. I can't figure out if its a one button mouse trying to be a multi button, or a multi button trying to be a one button.
Best off sticking with the Logitech, my MX510 is absolutely wonderful, IMHO. -------------------- Current Status: on (forced) hiatus from mac gaming.

I read that you can not click both left and right buttons at the same time so this mouse would cripple you in Unreal Tournament 2004 from doing things like tight grouped rocket shots.

I'm sure there'll be optimizations to these problems, most likely optional. If not from Apple itself, then from USB Overdrive or another developer for sure.

go here for info about WHY its not very good for gaming:
http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/dissect.ars or if you cant be bothered to read that, then ill do a quick summary of what they said. Basically, the top shell is a single entity, with two touch sensitive bits underneath. but the mouse only looks to the left side for pressure. So when the shell is clicked down, it checks i the left side has any pressure on it and if it does then it becomes a left click. also the squeeze button doesn give much feedback with a nice physical click once its reached. hopefully apple will sort this out in the next revision. -------------------- Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.
