Does MoH:AA really count as an old shooter, yet?  As far as I can tell, the graphics and gameplay are still pretty current.  Not every game can be UT:2004 or Doom 3, after all.

If UT2K4 counts (and a few people have mentioned it), then MoH can too. After all, it's "shooters you just can't let go".

View Post

But I think that the topic starter was specifically referring to older, dated games.  After all, not being able to "let go" of UT2004 is understandable - it's a new game.  Now, if you still play the original UT, that might be considered "not letting go."

SOF2 - MP still gets played a few times a week.

RTCW would still be my main MP game if the bastards hadn't killed the community by releasing that PC only add-on. Forget what it was called.

For me, SOF2 is the only FPS game that count.

Quake 3 and Marathon is also worthy of mention.

JK2:JO, which i still love dearly and play frequently. Plus, it runs super-sweet on my G3 iBook 900 MHz/ 640 MB RAM/ 32 MB Radeon 7500.

Other than that, Aleph One, especially m1A1 and Rubicon. Whilst I loved Bungie's original games, I just can't bring myself to play all the way through games I already know backwards-forwards-sideways and inside-out (my fave was M2, btw), especially considering the huge range of densely plotted scenarios out there set in the same Universe that I've yet to explore. And in OpenGL goodness, thanx to the Marathon Open Source project.

The one FPS I couldn't wait to finish becuase it was dragging out so long was SiN. Boy, did that game get dull by the time you got to the final boss. I preferred Wages of SiN, but never completed it, so I can't really comment on it.

I've started SiN - got it as part of the 'Shooter' pack as I realized I didn't have Heretic II or HeXen II (must've been too busy having kids and missed those ;) ).  But it hasn't sustained my interest that well ...

I guage my 'can't let go' by how much I replay over a sustained time ...

- Jedi Knight II
- Dark Forces
- Jedi Knight / Mysteries of the Sith (yes, I know, they are PC ...)
- Soldier of Fortune II ... Etch-a-Sketch level design, mediocre plot, so why do I love it so much ?!?!  Aw, who cares ... !
- Knights of the Old Republic
- Jedi Academy
- Gothic II (yep, more PC)

... many, many more ...

I can't beleive nobody mentionned BATTLEFIELD1942!!... (BTW this is my first post)!!!

I read on this forum, that BF was not as good as COD in MP, so I baught COD, (ok I played about 30 min online, vs BF1942 wich I played too many hours) but BF is nothing like COD on MP.. I really like better BF, ok COD looks nicer, but the HUGE environnement and the tickets/spawn point system of BF just rocks....

BF is like MY ultimate game, I played in the last years on my pc, now i'm playing maps that I was playing 2 years ago, and I just can get enough, BEST GAME EVER!.. (my opinion)....

COD in SP is AWSOME, and it runs better,......

Allright gatta work!
Cheers Guys!

Duke Nukem- My all time favorite. The games play was excellent as was the humor. Love that game!!!

Other than that, I'd go for Dark Forces, also good gameplay, but limited by the fact that you couldnt save a game in the middle of a map.

But, Duke will always be my number one!

That was one of my favorite things - they had to design and balance each map to be playable in a reasonable time at a reasonable level.  Today, designers assume infinite quick-saves.

I would have to say that the only shooter I seem to be going back to regulary is Rainbow Six. And I'm talking the very first Rainbow Six. Yeah, the one without an alternative name. I just don't seem to mind the bad graphics or the fact that there isn't even a visual weapon on the screen.

I used to be a die hard MOHAA fan and played it daily from the time it debuted until the time I picked up COD and now UO.  The multiplayer on these games have my name written all over them.

Man, for years and years I would wrap up my Marathon CD's and take them with me when I went on vacation in case my house was robbed or burned down!  When I got my CD burner I burned multiple copies and stashed them all over the place.

Well, what would it be...

I'm still playing Jedi Academy, that's probably one of my all time faves.
I like Ghost Recon very much, though I haven't played it that long.
A game that almost could've replaced Ghost Recon would be Rainbow Six 3, but since it doesn't have an ingame save feature...nah, no chance.

I still like the original Marathons, Dark Forces, Deus Ex and AvP, but I haven't played any one of these in quite some time. Maybe I should revisit them...Hm, too many games, not enough time....

My 2 euro cents.

-Andreas.
