I've been playing the solo campaign of NWN (no expansion packs installed). I just finished collecting the Waterhavian creatures in Chapter 1. I went to Aribeth and she asks me to accompany her to some ceremony. When the next scene starts to load, it quits out to the multiplayer screen (?!?!) and gives me the following error: "invalid character. invalid skill ranks."

Anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it? One suggestion was to edit nwnplayer.ini file ("Single Player Enforce Legal Characters=0") but that didn't help.

Ill assume you dont have any HakPaks installed either. Im not sure what could be wrong, looks to me like a corrupted character. and sorry to say, theres nothing I know that can be done about that.

No hacks or anything installed. It's a clean install.

So I have to start the chapter over again? Crap.

Got all the updates?
A new 1.65 patch is out but it is beta.

Yeah, I just installed it and it made no difference.

oh, have you tried any previous saves of the same character? it would be better than having to do the entire chapter again.

Yeah, I just tried that. I had to go all the way back to the beginning of Chapter 1 to find an uncorrupted save. I lost 3 levels on my fighter. Back down to level 3 :(

I wish I knew what caused the corruption.

Had you fiddled with your character using the console somehow? I find NWN gets confused about skill points sometimes if I change my INT before a level up, then use the console to re-do the level up with a different INT.

No, I haven't done anything like that. I only know that the corruption occurred when my character leveled up from level 3 to 4. I had saved the game immediately before and after leveling up. The saved character at level 3 is fine, but the level 4 character is corrupt.

Weird. You should consider emailing MacSoft with your before and after save—they may be interested in seeing this.

I just spoke to some of my NWN gaming pals & they have some problems with the 1.65B patch also.
One is on a Mac the other a PC.
Luckily I haven't updated yet.

I will, but I'm going to see if I can recreate the corruption when I level up again.

Can you copy the first section of the nwnplayer.ini file and paste it here? Just the "Game Options" part.

Also, copy/paste the names of the files in your override folder. (just select all, and press cmd-c and then paste into the text-field)

If I'm reading this thread correctly, the OP did not specifically mention a problem with the 1.65 patch, but rather that he still had the same problems with it that he had in 1.64.

Unless you're experiencing the same problems he's having, you shouldn't worry. Still, the final 1.65 Mac patch has not be released yet.
