They also have the best packaging of any Mac publisher.  I love the plastic keepcases.  They beat the pants off of the jewel cases or simple paper sleeves that most Mac games come in.  (hint hint, you other Mac publishers)

I couldn't agree more!

My MacPlay games look soooo much better on my shelf than any of my other Mac games.

I have mixed feelings about those cases.  I think they are superior cases for a CD for several reasons but they don't fit in any cabinet I have made for storing CDs.  Are there plastic keepcase storage cabinets or stands on the market?  I'm getting enough keepcases that I have a need for one.

There's tons of them, since it's the standard DVD format case. Swedish as I am I would suggest IKEA ;) I use a bookcase (from IKEA :P) myself though... my MacPlay games take up half a shelf by themselves. Add Feral and Blizzard to that and it's quite an impressive collection. Though The jewel cases still take more space since there's so damn many of them... I definitely prefer the DVD cases though.
You shouldn't ask yourself such worthless questions. Aim higher. Try this: why am I here? Why do I exist, and what is my purpose in this universe?

(Answers: 'Cause you are. 'Cause you do. 'Cause I got a shotgun, and you ain't got one.)

I cannot see any evidence that idicates that MacPlay is in any problems...?

Has anyone from IMG actually tried to contact MacPlay and ask them about our concerns?

Ah!  That helps, thanks.  Just knowing what they are called allows me to do a search for them.  They are everywhere!

Peter Cohen seems to have a decent grasp on their current disposition, judging by his "The Year in Mac Games" article at MacCentral.  Perhaps he has more info on their situation than he wrote about.

I noticed that MacPlay posted a new patch to Knights and Merchants bringing it to OSX compatibility. I thought this game was released as OSX compatible? It claims to have been posted on January, 18th '05. I guess MacPlay lives to some degree? Only if we could see an AvP2 patch.....  :glare:

To All,

MacPlay is alive and well. While I cannot speak of the direction the company is taking as far as future releases, I can say that you will see a dramatic improvement in customer support from our company. As some of you know, I was the Customer Relations & Support Lead for MacPlay about 2 1/2 years back. I have now returned to the company with the goal of revamping the entire company's customer service department. This will also include MumboJumbo, another subsidiary of United Developers.

Over the next few months you will find that support emails will be answered in a more professional and timely manner. Our FAQ pages wil be updated, we will have a knowledge base of some sort to offer to our more technically advanced customers and we will once again be taking a proactive approach to testing and isolating bugs.

I do appreciate the support and concern from each of you. Your loyalty to MacPlay does not go unnoticed - that is why I am back. Please continue to be patient with us during this transition period. Keep sending us support emails as needed.

Best Regards,

Matt Loria

While we have the attention of a Macplay representative, I was wondering if you guys had any current plans to review some of your old titles (Sacrifice, Throne of Bhaal) and patch them so that they work more reliably on most user's systems. Or at all, really. There are some well-documented issues with both those titles and a few others that have forced many to abandon them altogether.

Thanks.

Holy cow!  Not two hours ago I deleted Sin from my hard drive after yet another unsuccessful attempt to get it to launch!  It should have been a sign onto me of the second coming of the Matt!

Glad to see Matt is back. Welcome back. For those of you who may not know about Matt or have joined IMG after his departure from MacPlay, well, lets just say him being back and dealing with revamping customer relations and support is most welcomed news and it bodes very well for MacPlay, IMHO.

Yeah, it's really nice to see Matt back. He always posted here despite the amount of abuse he received from some users (I may have been one of them :| )

Tirinal,

We will continue to provide support for known issues on our older games. However, our older titles (Sacrifice, Giants, etc) will likely not see any further patches. From a product life cycle standpoint, many of the older titles have come full circle. People aren't really buying them anymore. There has to be a point at which we stop putting money into games that aren't selling any longer. It is simply not cost-effective to pump money into a "dead" product. This is not to say that our tech support won't attempt to try to solve future problems which might occur when Apple's updates the OS, but the support will be much more limited than the products released within the last two years. Remember: Giants / Sacrifice / AvP are are 4 years old and older.

I know that is probably not the answer a lot of you want to hear, but remember MacPlay is a business. Businesses must make profit to survive. We have to make smart decisions on all sides of the plate which includes tapering off support for older titles.

I hope that I explained this well. If you have problems with games, email us. We will do what we can to find a fix for the problem.

Thanks for the question.

Anyone tried to get support from MacSoft for Doom II lately?

Matt:

That analogy might have actually held water if MacSoft had actually had anything to do with publishing Doom II in the first place. ;) IIRC, that was GT Interactive's puppy, before MacSoft ever got involved (heck, that was even before Westlake Interactive rose from Lion Entertainment's ashes. We're talking real Precambrian-era stuff here. :))
