Went to www.macplay.com

Got a slight shock.... when did they start to sell everybody else's games?

I guess the porting business wasn't enough to keep them floating. But they took the step very silently... as with everything else they've done lately...
You shouldn't ask yourself such worthless questions. Aim higher. Try this: why am I here? Why do I exist, and what is my purpose in this universe?

(Answers: 'Cause you are. 'Cause you do. 'Cause I got a shotgun, and you ain't got one.)

This just happened within the last 2-3 days.  I checked out their website a few days ago and it looked nothing like this.  Kind of an odd turn of events...

If you can't beat them... join them? That seems to have been their line of thought at least.

They could have a lot of distribution open and offered to help out for the other publishers. Being good Mac citizens, why not?

I sure hope this expanded online store will allow MacPlay to keep bringing us Mac titles.

Indeed.
Perhaps they are just doing this to bring in a regular stream of income while they acquire/port/publish other Mac titles.  Maybe this move isn't a trouble sign from MacPlay as I first thought.

Poor buggers.  But if they'd spent more time on making sure the games they supplied actually worked, they wouldn't be in this hole.

True. Not that it was always their fault (As in the whole NOLF2 Fiasco)

They had a run of bad luck; instead of earning them enough dough to keep up the porting, the tech problems with AvP2 and NOLF2 killed their sales (I'm guessing). Apert from Tron 2, then Throne of Baal, they haven't brought anything new to the platform since. Sure, they offer VP's games, and some puzzle offerings, but that's been it. I am not surprised one bit. It is a pity though, as I liked the kind of games they brought our way. I second the wish for them to get back on their feet again.

Check the screenshots that accompany their Splinter Cell listing.
Seems like all but one of the pics are actually from the sequel (Pandora Tomorrow).  Perhaps they know something that we don't?

Yeah, same for UT2K4. Screenshot features a "PC" version of the game (no Mac logo present) even though the requirements clearly state it's for Mac.

*sigh* Oh MacPlay...where did thoust go wrong? All we asked for was an AvP2 fix. Well, I hope they continue to do Mac games, and wish them luck on their latest endeavor.

I got the MacPlay newsletter on November 23rd, showcasing the "New Expanded MacPlay Store!" It is what cued me on in them selling other companies games.

What's really weird is that they're not making an effort to let people know that the games they're selling on their website aren't actually published by MacPlay. Any un-informed gamer might get the impression that all the titles on the website are published by MacPlay.

Plus, looking at the product packaging images on their website, they seem to have deliberately removed the Aspyr logo from Aspyr's games. Very strange.

LEMONADE TYCOON 2

It's actually coming!!!!!! Remember, Lemonade Tycoon was supposed to come out, but Jamdat screwed up somewhere (I assume they had no publisher).

Oh, yeah, and the redesign is nice... ;)

I think that what's actually happened is that MacPlay's finally broken through the fabric of reality and been dragged into a pit of unspeakable evil for the heinous crime of not patching Sacrifice.  The disruption of space-time this caused has resulted in other companies' games appearing on their site.

MacPlay has lagged behind Aspyr & MacSoft pretty bad lately.  Doesn't surprize me...

I heard a rumor that Aspyr let MacPlay have Tron 2.0 for sake survival on MacPlay's part.  Anybody know any truth to this?

Seriously, I think you're right. I never forgave them for not patching Sacrifice. I just don't trust them anymore.
