But I really wish that Aspyr would hurry up with the beta process on KotOR so that I can see how it runs on my personal machine.

yeah, I wish everybody would personally cater to me, too. ;P

Yeah, life is pretty nice when you can snap your fingers and everyone jumps to provide for your every wish. At least that is what I hear...

I'm trying not to be one of those people who whines about how long the game takes to get to market and then complains about the bugs in the game. But I really wish that Aspyr would hurry up with the beta process on KotOR so that I can see how it runs on my personal machine.

I want this game, and I want it now. Well, I want it this evening. The Mac version of KotOR won't do me a whole lot of good while I'm at work with a Windows box sitting on my desk.

-Matt

...

Yup, you're definitely a Mac user :P

It'll be done when it's done.  Do you want a buggy app or a stable app?  I'm sure Brad's working hard polishing up the app.

For this game, I'd be willing to pay to be a beta tester. Well, I'd pay to beta test if I was guaranteed rapid responses on my patch requests...

Of course, when we get this game, then there wll be KotOR 2. How long will that take?

Yes, I too hope that KotOR 2 follows promptly. I'd love the first one now; I'm sure it'll come out just in time for me to head off to Burning Man and then get back to school. Just what I need to start off my senior year...massive distraction!

KotOR is at final candidate! Asypr flew the beta process to make it to final candidate already. Since KotOR is such a large game, I wonder how they managed to beta test everything so quickly.

I've read that you can power through in 15 hours of gameplay, or 30 if you really do every single sidequest. So, some dedicated testers with a lot of Mountain Dew could probably do some serious work.

30 hours if you do every quest...

Add another 30 hours if you complete every quest for both the dark side and light side.

Then include the different character types (3 different jedi subclasses if I recall). One hundred eighty hours...

That is some seriously fast beta testing. I'm not sure that Mt. Dew could cover that.

We announced it was in beta about a month after the actual beta had started.

See, MadMatt? we get both a quick arrival and a well-tested game. All your wishes come true.

Hopefully, my CPU upgrade and DVD drive should arrive in the mail today...

Ooh, you Asypr guys are so sneaky.

Thanks for the information. I've pre-ordered the game, and I'm really looking forward to getting into my Mac to see if it will actually run at an acceptable speed.

May the horse be with you.

Nothing much to say, except that I'm really craving this game. Let's start discussing character builds or something, like real powergamers! I think I'm all about the Scoundrel -> Jedi Counsular, Persueding my way through the game and using my amazing Force powers to shatter those who aren't weak-minded.

Don't you mean that you will use your force powers to shatter those who are weak minded?

Which takes more effort?  Shattering the weak minded or the non-weak minded?

If you want to talk about builds you'd probably want to start a new thread since this one is geared toward the reqs.

It's a tough one. Should I wave my hand and make folks behave, or should I use the more showy Force Powers? I'm...feeling...kinda EVIL!!! and even the light side has some handy ways to stun your foes and make them yip.

I'll start a build-oriented thread as you suggest. I just can't bear to start another one until I've actually got the game.

My system:

TiBook (last revision ever)
1 GHz CPU
1 GB RAM
Radeon Mobility 9000 w/ 64 MB RAM
Totally up-to-date MacOS 10.3 install.

Settings:

Lowest resolution, shadows turned off, grass turned off, lobotomized.

Patch installed.

All other background software terminated.

Results:

Virtually unplayable.

When my character is  in a very small room with no furniture or NPCs all by himself, the game is smooth and the controls are responsive.

But running around outside, on the very first world?  You know, to get from your hideout to the robot shop?  Abysmal.  It actually becomes difficult to control the character's movement.  Exploring the underground area near the outcast village, it becomes even worse.

Tonight, I'm going to try ATI's fancy "Open GL overrides" control panel to turn off every possible OpenGL feature and optimize for pure speed at the expense of appearance.  We'll see what happens.

Really, I don't care what it looks like, I want the game content.  I mean, come on, most XBox players live with NTSC quality and are happy with it.

The following post by Brad Oliver may shed some light.

My guess would be that your video card is at the low end of the spectrum, causing your CPU to have to do more lifting... and in turn your CPU is at the bottom end of the spectrum. Let us know how the ATI control panel tweaks help.

Crap. My Radeon 9000 Pro w/64 megs is going to hurt, isn't it.

Maybe my fancy OWC upgraded CPU (1.467 G4, 2 Megs L3 cache) will pull through.

I found the game playable in my Quicksilver with a Radeon 9200 (yes, PCI).  I only tried bits and pieces.  Some parts chugged (lots of polygons, probably killing the vertex shaders...) but for the most part, since it's an RPG, it was playable.  My Powerbook 800 with a Radeon 7500... I thought it was playable for a bit, but then I hit some of the heavier scenes.  Combat was a slide show.  Not pretty.  Wouldn't recommend that setup.
