You may remember a game called Tanaka a while back that was similar to Wipeout 2097, but better. A review of it at IMG can be found here. Unfortunately the company behind it, Pacific Media WorX, has since vanished and the game can no longer be purchased. I recently e-mailed the author of the game, Yves Schmid, and I received some good news regarding the future availability of Tanaka 3D. But he'll need some help from us. You can read the details here.

For those too lazy to go to the MacGamer forum link above, basically he says that he'll be happy to make the game available for free. Unfortunately he doesn't have any copies of the full game. So he's asking that if anyone still has the full version in their hands, he'll be happy to redistribute the game through his website for free. So if anyone has a copy of the full version, you can e-mail him at info@garagecube.com.

I also asked about the possibility of seeing an OS X version of the game. Unfortunately Pacific Media WorX had the original source code also. So if anyone knows where I can contact some of the former employees of Pacific Media WorX, we may be lucky enough to get the source code back to him to make the game OS X compatible. I know it's a long shot, but I think it's worth a try.

I have the demo still but I dunno about the full game. Does someone on Kazza or something have it?

Yeah, don't feel guilty if you get the full version off P2P software or Hotline or anything like that. The author of the game has every intention of making the game freeware. So please, if anyone has it contact Yves himself in the e-mail provided to arrange something.

I've tried looking for it myself but haven't been able to spot it anywhere. It's a very rare game to find nowdays, but I'm sure our persistence will pay off. Perhaps the IMG (Seth Scott) or MacGamer (Greg Weston) staff can help out, since both had the full version to make their reviews about the game.

It's not on Ebay right now, but that would be a good place to keep checking back on.

Wow, thank you! I'm going to send it as an attachment back to Yves Schmid, if you haven't already. He'll redistribute it through his website under the open source section for everyone to download.

Unfortunately we probably won't see an OS X version of of it. Pacific Media WorX had possession of the original source code and I tried looking up names using The Wayback Machine, but could only come up with one name which is nowhere to be found on Google today.

His name is Bryan A. Bloom. It can be found in the "investor information" section of the original website. Maybe someone can have better luck finding him today, although there's no guarantee that he'll even have the source code anymore today.

Still, maybe re-releasing Tanaka can inspire the author to create a better game like it in the future. He's still making some pretty cool stuff at his website.

Anyone here can punch me here for being 5 years late, but as of now, the link seems to be broken. I was wondering if there was still anything I could do to get the game at this point- - -if not, It's alright. I mean, I'm only FIVE years off here...geez.

(To answer your question seriously, no, unfortunately... don't know what you could do at this point. If you find out, though, do post an update in this thread. I love Wipeout, so a Mac game that's similar sounds like something I would want to play too.)

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

Ha! That was pretty funny... I tried to do the "self-mocking" approach as opposed to the "demanding" approach that so many have tried. In any case, you never know. Maybe an earlier post-er has a new link, or maybe they'll have a new official version...

Now, Screenshots are something I can actually do. Here's the biggest collection I could find; it's not quite as exhilarating as playing the game, but I just wish I could find some of the car select screen, with all of the sweet, sweet rides.

Hello, my friends.

Through a good deal of effort, I have managed to find a free and full version of Tanaka 3D. This is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ngnznzdutdz

I hope you enjoy it!

Patrick
