Without a doubt: Myth II
You shouldn't ask yourself such worthless questions.áAim higher.áTry this: why am I here? Why do I exist, and what is my purpose in this universe?

(Answers: 'Cause you are. 'Cause you do. 'Cause I got a shotgun, and you ain't got one.)

There are a lot of great RTS games. The best in my opinion is Starcraft and its expansion- Starcraft:Brood War.

Yeah, Myth II has to be the most fun RTS I've ever played and it's high on my list for the most fun game I've ever played.

Myth TFL!
A breakthrough on so many levels. Good combat model, good save/replay feature, a good story with excellent mood (better than Marathon), good graphics.

Best Official Scenarios, most played and replayed: Starcraft/Brood War;
Best Standard game replayability: AoE2;
Best 3D Classic on OS9: TA and expansions;
Most anticipated (agreed Quacker!): Rise of Nations;
Best movie-related experience: SWGB:CC;
Least played, but most-hyped: Age of Mythology.
Most bewildering: EU2

IMHO.

For the thinking man,.......Europa Universalis II.

Aah... we agree on that one... It may not be as graphically stunning as many games out there, but it really forces you to THINK. If you thought CivIII was too complicated, have a go at this!

And for those that think EU 2 is too pedestrian, try HOI, that'll make you think more than you probably wanted to do about world conquest.

Oh, and I'm putting my vote in for EU2 and HOI

Civilization? Alpha Centaurai mops the floor with the civilizaton series.
I say Starcraft was the best until Reign of Chaos. And Reign of chaos was best until Frozen throne.

Is Warrior kings bad? I have not seen anyone say it was good

Well it's not bad, it's just kinda not finished. The unit control really really sucks, and that kinda done it for me. But....

Total Annihilation!

TA was great, sadly no longer workable on my new iMac. Has anyone checked out Massive Assault -- billed as TA for turn-based players -- due out in March?

Okay, jacking this topic a bit...

I've been in the mood for an RTS for a while now, but I don't think I've bought one in a long time, since WCIII I guess.  WCIII is great, but it's not what I'm looking for.  The focus on Heroes in WCIII doesn't do it for me.  Don't flame.  I love the game.  It just doesn't satisfy me in an RTS way, the way WCII did.

Anyhow, I thought I'd ask you all what to get.  I know this thread lists many great games already, but I'm not talking best RTS of all time.  I'm talking about the best RTS for me to get now (I'm a bit of a smurfette for new games and high production value, i.e. good graphics and sound, to go with the incredible gameplay of course, and it has to run in OSX).

So what should I get?  I'm partial to RTS games with bows and swords instead of guns, but that's not a big deal.  Star Wars GB should be on its way to me in the form of my free game from IMG.  Perhaps that's all I need.
