If you can finish this one up a lot quicker without access to Aurora Mac source (saying you hadn't seen it and all) you're either a god among programmers, whomever worked on it at BioWare was the very opposite, or both.

There is some Mac code in the source we've got, almost certainly from the Mac NWN port, so I'm not exactly starting from scratch. A lot of the byte-swapping is done already, and if they had to make any major changes to the engine for Mac support in NWN, that's probably already been done as well and I'll never know about it. I also won't have to deal with multiplayer code, unlike with NWN.

Interestingly, some of the older Mac code in there predates OSX (there are some non-Carbon DrawSprocket calls, for example), so I'm not exactly sure of the history. Still, it's better than nothing.

Why isn't there net play?

It is a single player only game. Thus, no need for net play.

Because not every game needs multi-player.

The code in KOTOR has "Aurora" and "nwn" plastered all over it. I haven't seen the NWN code, but I'd say it has a whole lot in common. I think it will be a straight, easy port. :)
BioWare spent the better part of a whole year on NWN Mac and that was only after the PC version shipped, though one can hardly believe it they supposedly began work far earlier in the development cycle. If you can finish this one up a lot quicker without access to Aurora Mac source (saying you hadn't seen it and all) you're either a god among programmers, whomever worked on it at BioWare was the very opposite, or both.

I don't think OS X was in any shape for NWN to ship for it when the PC version shipped.  We didn't even get decent texture compresssion until 10.2.3.  It falls in the same category of UT2K3 as a game that OS X wasn't ready for when the PC versions shipped.  Both games need a minimum of 10.2.6.

Will there be PC Mac net play?

No.

And the reason for this?

There's no PC to PC net play.

KotOR is a dedicated singleplayer game...

Good reason
Work: MacBook - 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo - 4GB RAM - X3100 graphics.

I really don't want to have to wait until August to get this title. I'm not a patient man, and I want my KOTOR now!

What an odd idea. A star wars that follows AD&D 3rd rules.
Sounds fun.

Actually it doesn't Use AD&D 3rd rules. There's an actually a Star Wars Pen and Paper RPG which uses the D20 system (which is based on DnD), and that's what KotoR uses.

As a fan of West End's older Star Wars RPG, I haven't been able to bring myself to try out D20 Star Wars.

I guess I'll become intimately familiar with it when the game comes out, tho.

Oh, I see now.
Wouldn't that mean that it would use a different engine then NWN?

Just because it uses the same graphics engine doesn't mean they have to use the same set of rules. The rules are just numbers, and since the D&D system is d20 based as well, the basic system is similar.
You shouldn't ask yourself such worthless questions. Aim higher. Try this: why am I here? Why do I exist, and what is my purpose in this universe?

Now that would be a wacky mod...adding Jedi as NWN prestige classes.

Hell, Bastilla alone is worth the price of this game...

Dress her up in a Dark Jedi Knight robe and then undress her to see here in her naughty 'evening' outfit....

KOTOR was the best game I ever played period on my Xbox.  I've played through it so many times, it's not even funny.  I can't wait for KOTOR II.

I just read Brad's latest entry on his blog and saw some cool KOTOR news.

Quote

OTOR also supports VBO on the PC. Today I implemented the VBO path on the Mac and ran it under 10.3.4. It made a fairly noticeable improvement in performance. My Mac, a DP/800 with GeForce 3, is well below the minimum specs for KOTOR, so development has been a bit painful. Now with the VBO code turned on, it's actually playable on my Mac (although by no means fast), and performance is competitive with my PC (a 933 P3 with a GeForce 3) for the first time. Naturally, we can't require 10.3.4 for the game so I'll have to write a VAR path before it ships, but I'm grateful to Apple for adding this OpenGL extension to at least make our lives a little easier. Sometime in the future, when our games go 10.3 and up (most are 10.2 and up right now), we won't have to worry about writing VAR code and can just stick with VBO, which will make the development time that much shorter.

If it is playable on a DP/800, then it should be more playable on my DP/1Ghz. Way to go Brad!
