Only just discovered this thread. Strikes me that the response is pretty unequivocal - at least as regards Deus Ex: I never played it first time around but if it were a budget title, say 14.99 over here. I'd be in.

And yes, I appreciate it's straying somewhat from the original thread but a DVD with professionally-ported* and QA'd OSX-flava versions of the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament would get my vote, and more importantly my 30.

* I know there's a couple of mods which get close, but they don't run too well on my Mac & I suspect they're not likely to run too well on anyone else's either

it will work, cos its literally just replacing old textures with new, kind of thing. and its here. its not finished yet, but they are making a lot of progress, which is absolutely ace. Since February, theyve finished off the models in phase two, and done half the work on phase three. youll have to look at the site to understand all that though.

agreed, id love to see someone like brad oliver pick up UTPG as a pet effort. Ryan Gordon gave it a go, but didnt manage to get very far.

And you can pick up a copy of Deus Ex from ebay... run it in classic with openglide or something.
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Thing is, I don't run any applications that require Classic these days, and disk space was rather at a premium so I deleted the System Folder.

Sometimes picking up a Mac game on ebay is easier said than done. :)

well... i managed it, and ive seen it on the british ebay plenty of times since... so itll just take a little bit of searching really.

and youre such a silly to delete classic. ive kept it just for posterity more than anything. got it on an external drive too.

Better late than never, but I would definitely buy classic games that were updated to OS X and UB or Intel based and re-boxed. I tend to buy classics more than new games and aren't too fussed on price ;)

I'm late to this party as well, but I indeed would pay $20 for older games that work in Tiger/Leopard, especially Alpha Centauri and Deux Ex.

Did they re-release anything?  At least Feral seems to have actually made a commitment to this with their recent
announcement.  Frankly, I haven't been paying attention to anything from Aspyr over the last year or so.  Feral seems
to have totally captured my interest now.

I'd love to see an OSX port of Deus Ex as it's still one of my favourite games on any platform. I'd quite like an OSX port of the Lucasarts Indy game too.

The Indy game Aspyr did was "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb" it came out when Mac OS X 10.3 was current OS. The installer broke with 10.4 so Aspyr put out a patch to fix it however the game broke (crashes on launch) with Leopard. There has been no sign of a patch so I guess it didn't sell well enough. I started playing it but since I'm on Leopard now I'll probably never get to finish it :(

Looks like I can forget about that then for the time being.

I agree, but Heavy Metal FAKK 2 was not an Aspyr-published game.

Omni who ported the game game for Macsoft did release a beta version for Mac OS X (PowerPC only back then!). Unfortunately it broke with either 10.4 or 10.5. That meant yet another game I never got to finish  :( .

It is a shame that these games don't get open sourced when the developer and/or publisher loose interest so they can be brought back. The only way to play them is to get an older Mac or if you have an Intel Mac buy the game again for Windows and use Crossover/Fusion or Parallels or Boot camp.
