One for the iOS/mobile gamers:

What do you look for when playing games while travelling?

e.g. Frequent autosaves, stable tilt controls, endless distraction…

For demanding games on the go, an option to tone down visuals to preserve battery life would be nice to have.

Frequent saves are always good on a mobile device even at home. I can just as easily be interrupted here as anywhere else.

Those address features. As for content, I tend to play the likes of Bejeweled 3 or Solitaire in a doctor’s office but for a longer stretch somewhere I prefer the same content I would at home. For iOS that means strategy and role playing games primarily. These games play well with touch controls. AR is neat but I think it’s kind of a fad really because you have to hold the device a certain way aiming at a surface, etc. Personally I find the novelty of it cool but that’s about it. I feel the same way about VR. Headsets aren’t the way. The holodeck is. Too bad I won’t be here for that. Sorry, wandered off topic.

Medieval Total War II for iOS please. Thank you. Oh, and when it becomes possible I would absolutely love the Dawn of War II games for iOS. I’d buy all three of them instantly on release. I realize that may not be technically feasible yet but I figured I’d start the appeals process early.

Based on the number of games probably Tomb Raider, only one needed WINE to play one on my Mac (Legend) and really enjoyed the latest but, being a racing sim fan and long time F1 fan watching each race on TV having the Codemasters F1 games has been fantastic.

Myst, no question. Riven changed my life in opening my eyes at what interactive storytelling could be. It’s a masterpiece.

Which reminds me: the Myst Kickstarter for all the games and some killer artifacts—including a linking book with a customizable LCD panel—has less than 24 hours to go. They have since announced Mac support. https://www.kickstar...ection/comments

World of Warcraft classic. Thats classic, as the current WoW is not for me. WoW had a lot of elements I like in a game, including communication and teamwork.

I never met DOOM game I didn't like. The same can be said for the Wolfenstein and Quake games.

Legend of Zelda I have to say. I have had waaaay to many wonderful gaming experiences in that series. Ocarina of Time is still my number one all time game (Followed by Baldurs Gate 1, Civilization 4: BTS, Borderlands 2 in that order). The music, the setting, the characters, the gameplay, the story, the AAA feel - Everything top notch. Specifically for OoT, it has to be the music and story though.

Really looking forward to getting a Nintendo Switch and dive into Breath of the Wild.

It used to be the Assassin's Creed series, though I stopped playing after brotherhood. Now it's almost certainly the Witcher series. No other franchise has given me exactly what I want from a game and then some quite like they have.
Maybe it really is all cocks in the end.

If you could take only ONE Mac game with you on a desert island, what would it be and why?

Hope there’s a power plant of some kind on the island too. ;)

Probably my favorite strategy game, Alpha Centauri. I’ve never really “beaten” the game nor have I dabbled much in the expansion so I’d know I’d get a lot of mileage out of it.

Rise of Nations would be a close second, but there is no longer a Mac version. Hint, hint. (I’d love to see new Mac ports of all the Microsoft RTS remasters: AoM, AoE I and II.)

Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword.

No contest there. The replayability of that amazing game is outstanding. A pity it gets more and more bugs for each macOS release, and wont work at all in 10.15. :(

Gotta agree with that, game shaped my life honestly. Also the Scenarios that came with the expansions were insanely good.

WoW's kept me entertained for a decade or more, so there's no reason to suppose it won't keep me entertained for another.

(It's not my favourite Mac game by a long shot, but it's like always there, you know? Like a pair of old slippers).
You must gather your party before venturing forth.

I know right? I am close to hitting 1000 hours played in Civ4 alone, and have even touched any mods or scenarios!

And I still honour Civ1 for teaching me the basics of the english language.

Oh man you've gotta play them sometime. Beyond the Sword's scenarios in particular are crazy fun. Afterworld is one of the weirdest/coolest things I've ever played.

Thanks I will do so, some time!

...(I've always been SO annoyed that after you select Single Player in Civ4:BTS, it then defaults to the THIRD menu option, which is mods - So if you start the game, and then spam enter to get going, you actually end up relaunching the game with some weird mod started! >_<)

I always thought the menu design was super odd, thankfully they figured that out with 5

At the moment, I would say Hitman. There are just so many possibilities… It's almost like reverse Cluedo, where you don't try to find out the murderer, but to find new ways to murder so many people in so many different ways: the Clown in the Kitchen with the Explosive Rubber Ducky.

"We do what we must, because we can."
