I've been having problems updating DA2. When I launch the game, it asks me if I want to download the update, and every time (about 20x by now), the download fails near the end. Unfortunately (which has happened before with this game), a partial download seems to have occured, which makes the room spin every time I try to move a character in-game. Anyone have similar issues/fixes?

Tried repairing permissions, sounds like some file it's trying to update might not be writeable?

What version does it say you currently have installed? I don't have experience with the Mac "version", but I remember Owen saying the updater could break if you modify the package (did you manually install the hi-res texture pack, for instance)?

Otherwise, try reinstalling the game.

I'm running version 1.01.5413, and sadly repairing permissions did not solve the problem. I have not modified the package in any way. Is re-installing the only choice?

Reinstalling did not fix the problem, and now I'm back to version 1.0.  The download of updates fails near the end on every occasion. Do you think I'm likely to get any response from Bioware on this issue? They've been pretty poor on Mac support.

BioWare won't know anything (you should check the forums, though, just in case other users have the issue). You'd have to try EA support or Transgaming (I'd start with the latter; the updater is custom code from them).

OK, thanks, I'll give it a try. Though I don't know how much I'm willing to pursue it merely to play a rather poorly rated DLC.

The update has some substantial changes, and Legacy is actually among the best DLC they've ever done.

I haven't yet played DA2, but with DA:O, the Mac Tech Forums on http://social.bioware.com were quite helpful, as was, on different occasions, the EA chat support. (Conversations are a bit weird, and bring lots of patience, (ever talked to ELIZA, the AI psychologist?) but once they understand that you are on a Mac, you get immediately forwarded to a second-tier staff member :D , and from there on the ball usually gets rolling...)

Trying that route. So far, they haven't even got back to me. We'll see.

Don't use e-mail, use the chat. Better to wait a few minutes and then get a firm hold of a (semi-automatic) staff member instead of waiting for mails...

go to http://help.dragonage.com .  select "Contact Us" on the left. login with your mail address and password (if you have an EA account). Enter Dragon Age II, Mac, technical support, installation/update and then enter the live chat.

Yes, I've tried that as well. So far, that's resulted in several hours of blank screens as the staff member types a list of "Mac tips" which he doesn't understand, and which i already tried prior to calling them. Then he goes away for long periods to try to find a supervisor, and so far fails to find anyone who has any clue. I'm disgusted with them, and on the verge of just deleting the whole program and running everything under Boot Camp in the future.

Sorry to hear that. I seem to have got the few capable persons over there when I needed them. It usually starts like you said too, but after a few minutes I get forwarded to one of the "second tier" guys (actually: gals) and they seemed to know their stuff. Guess I picked a good time of the day for contacting them...

Have you tried the DA2 Mac Tech section of the Bioware forums yet? Or maybe TransGaming is the solution (as it's their wrapper).

I'd like to help myself, but I've got no experience with DA2 (yet). (Just made a WINE wrapper for Unreal2, which I bought for like two bucks a few years ago and never got around trying out, so I'm busy playing THAT right now - DA2'll have to wait a bit longer...)

Good luck - and try to stay clean (i. e. Mac native!).

EDIT: AS I see, you DO have Vista already installed, you traitor! HA! Feel my Sword of Righteousness!
(sorry!)

I posted on the Mac tech section last week and got no reply. The problem with the "live chat" support is that the time requirement is endless. Perhaps you got lucky, but for me it's an hour or more every time I call just to get through the layers of low level "have-no-clue" types.
As to the partition, I caved on that a long time ago. The Orange Box was probably my apple of temptation. And honestly, not playing The Witcher....impossible.
