In Topic: Apple Plans to Announce Move to Its Own Chips at WWDC

14 September 2020 - 02:08 PM

From everything ive seen, ARM is still operating independently, and is still committed to their Open-source approach, at least from the press release i read.

It wont really affect Apple unless they get into a snit simply because nVidia now owns ARM.

Like, Steve would have probably been irate as all get out because of it, simply because of his (irrational) hate-on for nVidia.  Whether Tim will be the same, who knows.  But i doubt it.

I shant fight you brother.  When Dizzy took the reins the franchise took a nose dive and refused to pull up.  I blame gremlins, obviously they ejected the tail assembly.  When they killed off Luke and Hans Star Wars bit through it's cyanide tooth.  RIP Star Wars, oh how I loved thee.  Saw the first one in the theater sitting in the first row because there were no more seats and it was world changing for me.

To be fair, Rogue One was solid.  But it also deliberately tried to fit in as a direct prequel to Ep. 4 and match the vibe of the Orig. Trilogy.

Solo would have beena fine Scifi action adventure if it had simply not been Star Wars.  If theyd just changed the names, and made it a generic sci-fi movie, it would have been a B+.  As a Star Wars movie, though, it was a solid C-

The rest, though..ugh.  Trash.  Just.. Trash.  Ive read better fanfic.  Hell, if theyd just produced the (now Non-canon) original Thrawn Trilogy and not thrown away the expanded universe on a whim....  too late, though.  Though i hear The Mandalorian is great... but i attribute that to it (like Rogue One) deliberately paying homage to the Orig. Trilogy and its style (amd John Favreau).

I'm always some sort of brute, barbarian class in those games but PoE doesn't appear to offer that. With a freemium model I might check it out tho

There are dozens of good melee builds.  The “Class” only determines where you start on Skilldrasill.  You could start at Witch and still end up as a facetanking melee machine.  It wouldnt be optimal, but it could be done (and some of the Unique items can enable builds that otherwise make ZERO sense to be downright amazing).  Starting at Marauder or Duelist would be better, but its all possible.  Theres even a class (that had to be unlocked?  I dont recall, but probably not anymore) That starts in the exact middle of the tree and can enable some truly weird builds.  Then they recently-ish added the sub-classes which kind of hammer down on very specific playstyles.

In fact, the reason im not currently playing is because the choices can sometimes be overwhelming, and i got kind of ... lost?  And put the game down for a while, and they have since added so much NEW stuff that its kept me from coming back because i know it would swallow me for months and im trying to clear my single player game queue.

Its a genuinely good game, though, and the studio is very in touch with their player base and they produce TONS of new content all the time, and have a raft of specialist “Leagues” and Playtypes (the Leagues are usually time-limited, and the most popular ones stick around as alternate full-time server types, like Solo Self Found (cant group, cant trade), which the Hardcores really like) that change the game in sometimes significant ways.  Theres a LOT to do, but it can get very complicated.  Its not simplified down like D3, its like D2 and they went “but what if we add like ten times more variables/stats, plus pseudo-classless, oh, and Skilldrasill” - and that is where they STARTED at the game launch and theyve added even more stuff since.  Its not for the faint of heart.  Thankfully, the forums are friendly and there are lots of guides out there.

Oh very interesting! This is supposed to be really good!

what do they earn their money on? Only cosmetics?

Cosmetics, supporter packs (they put them up a few months before each expansion, and supporters get exclusive cosmetics, forum titles, and stuf like that), and some very minor in-game stuff - nothing that affects character power, but the main one is several forms of extra stash tabs (some that hold more but only certain types of items, ones you can rename. Ones that are color coded, or combinations thereof.). You dont NEED them if youre good at paring down your inventory (the default is like 8 or 9 tabs IIRC), but, honestly, ive thrown maybe 20$ On them, and since ive got well over 120 hours into the game, and its a genuinely good game, i dont regret that at all.  Honestly, if i still played regularly, id probably have bought supporter packs just because theyre a good company that listens to he players and produces a quality game, and in the long run the $/fun times ratio would still be absurdly good.

In Topic: Microsoft Won’t Let You Uninstall Its New Edge Browser

Also, IE was integrated into the file browser of the system, not just an included app in the OS.  Thats where they got into trouble, because they tried to claim they COULDNT remove it because it was part of the OS.

This just doesn't let you uninstall it, but it doesn't force you to use it.

And, as Camper pointed out... its not a monopoly anything, as Chrome beats them to death in market share.
