So: the Mac gaming community I know best is made up of fellow old-timers who recognized that there was something special about Mac gaming, spent their precious time and money on it, and shared the ups and downs with me.

I'd like to meet this community, can you direct me to their location.

If there had been Ambrosia releases of their classics sometime between 2012 and 2016 I think they would have been big hits. Now, there's just too much noise. And frankly too many good games (and bad) to get lost in. They would have been the cream rising to the top them.

Bethesda is using MoltenVK to provide metal support for ESO so it can't be that hard to do.

Spoiler: that was a jab at bethesda.

They fired their competent mac developer a while back because they cost too much so thats kind of on zenimax that they can't implement it right.

#450447 Aspyr's upcoming projects

Spoiler: Nvidia sucks.

Unsure how many people were clambering for Black Ops 3, hope it does well so they can afford to port Borderlands 3.

2 had a quick turnaround but I don't think the Mac version was announced until a couple months after the Windows release.

Welp, Mac version just downloaded a 10.2 GB patch. Looks like the DLC and HD packs are live now.

"listed as Mac compatible", the DLC and Texture Pack don't actually install. Who knows. Aspyr sent out an email so one would assume they should be working soon.

I've confirmed it by playing it. System Requirements are now minimum version of mac OS 10.12.

I don't have anything earlier than 10.13 installed on a machine right now to verify how accurate that is. I believe the 1.8.4 system requirements was 10.8 minimum version.

One might dream that the BL2 update delay has been because Aspyr has been working behind the scenes on this DLC along with the HD update. I don't think that is the case but I am dreaming it is.

Core game was updated to 1.8.5 (and is now 64-bit!), I successfully joined a PC game this morning. But 90% of games in the browser are DLC games so I can't join them.

I tried verifying the files but the HD pack and Lilith DLC both show as not installed. idk, probably valve fraked something up.

Yet another RPG classic returns: The Bard's Tale IV.

Bard's Tale IV Mac version delayed again . At least we get the directors cut. Still no word on the Mac versions of Bard's Tale Trilogy, iirc a Mac version was specifically called out in one of the backer emails.

As suspected. Thanks for confirming!

Since I'm not in Support I'm just a honorary member of that list of doofuses.

I don't expect the average home user, or even prosumer hobbyist to know or care. I do expect "highly skilled IT professionals" with ample documentation to. *spoiler* they don't.

Apple and some of the biggest corporations in the would would disagree with that assessment.

It's going to be super fast. 32 core base model with available 64 core upgrade. It will have serviceable memory, all other expansion will be via thunderbolt 3.

Organizations that want to get work done. There is a huge disconnect with the folks in this forum and the professional world.

Where precisely is the overlap between the target audiences for the Mac Pro (or MacBook Pros, for that matter) and for iPads/Chromebooks? This makes zero sense.

The majority of sales, office, marketing folks do not need a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro. However they frequently need somewhat more flexibility than an iPad or Chromebook provides.

Would it surprise you to learn that my wife works for a Fortune 100 company and does the majority of her work on a company provided iPad? Would it surprise you to learn that I manage the Apple infrastructure for an organization that has thousands of Apple devices. Devices that facilitate some of our most mission critical workflows (literally life and death)? There's a LOT to complain about with apple (and I do frequently) but these concerns about gamers and nvidia cards and ARM devices are so off apple's (and most organizations) radar they are in another galaxy.

I'm not trying to trivialize anyone's opinion but Apple's key customers are no longer the armchair prosumers of the late 90s. It's insurance companies, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, etc...

Why would you need to make a bunch of symlinks if you're booting off an external SSD?

My Mac Pro 2008 is (holds up both hands with fingers extended) THIS many years old. I upgraded the video card twice. So I'm holding out for the next Mac Pro, and if it lasts 8-10 years it will have been well worth the expense. But if it is ARM or starts at $5000 then I'll probably get a Mini with eGPU instead.

I like the idea of making a Hackintosh, but I just don't have the patience at this time of life.

You'd make up half the difference just in electricity with a mini and eGPU :teehee: (spoken as someone who also owns a 2008, though it's to really used anymore)
