Jeff Vogel, boss of Spiderweb Software, indy developer superhero, toymaker and all-round good egg has announced a Kickstarter campaign for his new, isometric RPG Queen's Wish: The Conqueror, with a primary fundraising goal of $30k.

'Queen's Wish' will be set in an entirely new game world, but fans of Vogel's work will know what to expect; isometric, old-school, party-based roleplaying, with a massive amount of content and decidedly unhurried gameplay. Details of the new game are a bit thin at present, but 'fort building' of some kind is promised and with the Kickstarter necessary to fund new art.

(I should add that I'm not affiliated with this project in any way, but Jeff's a splendid fellow who's been feeding Mac gamers for over a quarter of a century now).

Update: More details on Jeff's blog here ; the Kickstarter is funded, and the first stretch goal (an iPhone port) has been reached.

Update #2: Stretch goal 2 has been reached (more in-game content).
You must gather your party before venturing forth.

I particularly like the $75 pledge incentive.

I wish I could get into his games but they are just too old-school for me. Baldur's Gate is about my limit.

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

He really went for an even more old-school graphic style here…

I have a feeling he really wants to get it on the iPhone and the less isometric view point will work better with less screen real estate.

Indeed. Although the main drive for the Kickstarter seems to be funding to hire an artist, so I'm guessing this might just be placeholder graphics for now. But who knows?

Vogel's giving us a blog update on the game shortly, so I'll post that when it's up. (Funding is at 85% at the time of writing btw).

A lot of the graphics in the trailer appear to be Avernum placeholders but I wouldn't expect the engine and style to change drastically between now and release.

Yup, nailed it:

[The top-down style is] very graphically clean, and makes it  clear what creatures are in what spaces,  which is necessary for a game like this on small screens like the iPhone.
