Thursday Apple announced a 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program. Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

If you have 15-inch MacBook Pro’s deployed, you can check to see if they are eligible for this program at https://support.appl...battery-recall.

This is the first time in years I've seen an actual recall (used for customer safety issues) vs. a Quality Program or Repair Extension Program.
