Finished RAGE but it was so good I started a new game at a higher difficulty level.

I'm splitting my time mainly between Rome: Total War and the new Hitman.

It's actually the first time I play RTW and have to say that the game hasn't aged well. I know that many fans still hold it in high esteem, but I would say that's purely nostalgia. Later Total War games are just far more refined and better in pretty much every way. I still want to at least finish the grand campaign, but it's quite taxing my patience.

Hitman on the other hand is great: it's the ultimate murder sandbox. There's your setting, these are your targets, kill them, no matter how. You have all the freedom you want, but – if you want – the game also gives as much help as you need. The maps are simply fantastic: they are incredibly detailed, feel really alive, and most of all are absolutely plausible and hence feel realistic.

I just broke the 500 hour Civilization IV mark on Steam. And thats only the part where I have had internet access..

Maybe I should try a new game soon.

I played Diablo III over the weekend, while they were awarding double experience.

My pattern is I play D3 for about a week every 12-16 months. Then I put it away. Don't get me wrong, I could play it a lot longer, but once I've scratched the itch I forcibly drag myself away. I do this by allowing the story and dialog to annoy me all over again, and by reminding myself of the tricks they borrowed from casino slot machines to make the game more addicting. Eventually I go do something else.

Also played the first third of Steamworld Heist (Mac version). It's pretty good, but I don't feel compelled to finish it, unlike Steamworld Dig. But it's definitely worth a look, particularly if you enjoy turn-based combat with RPG trappings and a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi setting (robot pirates in space, but styled as a Western.)

Feral's Mad Max (great port) and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch (150cc currently). I should get back into Zelda, if you compare the relatively generic open-world of the wasteland with the unpredictable Hyrule in Breath of the Wild -- it's such a huge difference. Mad Max is fun, though. Like the driving and some of the characters. But the Ubi formula is slowly wearing me out.

Fire: cute puzzle game from the Daedalic folks.
Rise & Shine: some reviewers panned the game as too short (2 h max). Well, I must suck at this type of game since I'm over 6 h and stuck at the final boss...

Lilly Looking Through : Absolutely gorgeous animated adventure, good music and sound. Labor of love from the developers. More like Samorost than Myst, in that it can be surreal and sometimes you do things because you can, not because you know exactly what the goal is. Just when I started to lose interest they introduced the goggles which are very cool. It's pretty short, which I personally didn't mind.

Downsides: You need patience because there is trial and error required, and you have to wait for Lilly to run to where you clicked, or watch her try to lift or push something repeatedly. Ending is intriguing, but not very satisfying. I needed a walkthrough when I got tired of experimenting. So, it's more rewarding if you can relax into it.

If you got this in a bundle, don't neglect it, particularly if you want something interesting you can play with kids around.

I just finished Bioshock infinite and and found it pretty average. :mellow:
I can understand why it was praised so much because the story looks original and tries to overwhelm the player with emotions. The graphics and levels are beautiful, and there are a lot of possibilities with fights, from standard weapons to special powers (I already forgot how they call them), skylines and stuff.
But for me, it's all on the surface and it doesn't save the games core issues.

I experienced the story as a contraption that tries to look profound (I hate when they do that) but doesn't make much sense. There's not way I could feel connected with any of the characters. I like a good storyline, but I'm the kind of guy who wants characters to be natural and things to make sense, not the kind who likes to be told arbitrary explanations that actually don't clarify anything. I was always like "if you says so". The ending was the worst of all.
And the way it's delivered... You're assigned a series of micro-objectives that you blindly follow with no idea what'll be next. Everything could happen. There's already a problem when you have a dedicated key to remind you of your objective. At this stage, just don't give objectives and have the player follow the only possible path.

But if the story was the only issue, it'll be fine. Sadly, the gameplay is horribly repetitive, alternating between endless looting and awfully similar arena fights where you try to figure out who's shouting at you. I was pretty disappointed by the absence of natural interaction with the environment (no, the "tears" don't count). Overall, the gameplay is completely... artificial, unnatural, staged. In a sense, this is the opposite of HL2, where the gameplay is varied, integrates naturally with the story, and where things just make sense.

Overall, what a disappointment. I had hopes in this game, which I purchased years ago and couldn't play because my Mac was too slow. :crying:
