Invalid browser certificate for IMG

18 March 2020 - 12:58 PM

IMG site uses an old MacGameStore certificate that expired a long time ago.

(No, it's not that important. I was considering starting a World Community Grid team for IMG, and the URL would needs to be https. But I can create a team without directly linking to the IMG website.)

Stanley Parable, Ultra Deluxe Edition

22 January 2020 - 04:09 PM

(Which forum does Stanley Parable belong in? Adventure, sim, or puzzle?)

For anyone who might have missed it: they are working on a new version of Stanley Parable, updating the graphics, adding more content, and consoles. (Will it include Mac again? Not clear. Hopefully!)

It was supposed to come out in 2019. Here's the game's narrator answering everyone's burning questions about the release date.

Cheap Mac Games

25 September 2019 - 06:47 PM

Thought we could use a thread for Mac game sales. I'm particularly interested in DRM-free games, but all sales are good sales.

Divinity Original Sin 2 is currently 40% off at GOG. I've seen it for that price plenty of times on Steam, but the fact that this is DRM-free finally got me off the fence.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on sale for $19.97 on Steam; I'm passing though because it's not clear when Feral will release the Mac version. If there's a delay the credit for my purchase might end up going 100% to the Window publisher.. I'll wait.

BareFeats asking for donations

07 August 2019 - 07:47 PM

Rob-ART of barefeats.com is asking for donations to help him buy Apple hardware to test. I've used his site often enough over the years-- I chipped in $10 bucks. The link is on his home page if anyone else is interested.

iDevGames RIP

15 July 2019 - 06:59 AM

I have no inside information, but the iDevGames website has been down for a few weeks now and I don't expect it will come back this time.

Like IMG, the main site has been inactive for years except for the forums. But even that was hobbled-- the moderators closed it to new members because too many spammers were getting through. So the writing has been on the wall for a while.

For those who aren't familiar with it, in its heydey (2002-2006-ish) iDevgames was an influential hub for amateur Mac game developers and its annual "uDevGame" contest launched many memorable free games, gave away prizes worth many thousands of dollars,  and even gave some people a pathway into the computer game industry.

I remember some of those old contest entrees fondly, and keep many on my hard drive even though most of them don't run any more. (My own uDG contest entrees are still available on my website mindthecube.com, and I did patch them from PowerPC to Intel, but I have no plans to make them 64-bit.)

Pour one out for another fallen Mac game institution..
