Mac Game Store has added Valve's Portal 2 first person action puzzler to its list of titles available for purchase and download. The game introduces a new cast of characters to the single player storyline, new puzzle elements, and a two player cooperative mode

Portal 2 draws from the award-winning formula of innovative gameplay, story, and music that earned the original Portal over 70 industry accolades and created a cult following.

The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game.

The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

Features:
  • Extensive single player: Featuring next generation gameplay and a wildly-engrossing story.
  • Complete two-person co-op: Multiplayer game featuring its own dedicated story, characters, and gameplay.
  • Advanced physics: Allows for the creation of a whole new range of interesting challenges, producing a much larger but not harder game.
  • Original music.
  • Massive sequel: The original Portal was named 2007's Game of the Year by over 30 publications worldwide.
  • Editing Tools: Portal 2 editing tools will be included.
Requirements:
  • Mac OS X 10.6.7 or later
  • 2 GHz Dual Core Intel Mac
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 7.6 GB HD Space
  • Video:
    • ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT
    • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    • Intel HD Graphics 3000

  • Requires Steam and a Steam Account to play

Portal 2 is available now for $14.95 (USD), a 25% discount.

I kept a High Sierra partition on my iMac just to keep the Portal games around for my kids. Truly two of the most entertaining and intelligent games ever.
The commute from Mill Valley to Cupertino is a real bitch.

I had no plans to replay either of those in the near future. So it hadn't registered that they don't run on Catalina-- I am bummed right now.

I see news pretty often about the original Doom being ported to all sorts of things (does it run on FitBits now?). Myst has had a few resuscitations too. Part of me is hopeful that the Portals are so good that they will live on in some future device that my kids will take for granted. It will be one of the distraction options available on the autonomous cars they will pay a monthly subscription to ride in as they commute through the wastelands to their job at FaceTok.

Meh. Portal 1 was good, Portal 2 was okay. But I never found them to be the *insert angelic singing* games that people seem to think they are. They are too shallow story wise, and too repetitive gameplay wise, to be that, for me. Fun for a time, sure, but never more than that.
