'ARMA: Cold War Assault' is out for Mac on Steam and the Mac App Store.
Not listed for macOS on Steam, same deal as ARMAIII? It's ported, but by VPLTD, so not really ported or supported?

Thanks. I wish they could get ARMA III working with Metal.

VP is bringing 'Micro Machines World Series' to the Mac, potentially releasing simultaneously with the Windows and Linux version on June 20.
The Deliver2 store page also mentions Metal support.

Caught ARMA3 on sale, $20. Just getting a black screen with white pointer on my setup. Virtual Programming have done their signature work again. Can't find a way around it.
After 10.13 upgrade I tried installing Dying Light and ArmA III again... I could see the background 3D graphics in DL's menus now, actual game won't load though. ArmA III? It works! :w00t:

ArmA III uses Metal, which 10.13 has improved.
As for Dying Light... I think it uses openGL. It's not ported by Virtual Programming, is it?

1.76 Linux & Mac experimental ports (ARMA III)

Linux & Mac experimental ports were updated to version 1.76
More Intel:
https://dev.arma3.com/ports - Enjoy!

1.76 highlights:
+ Laws of War DLC
+ parity with WIndows 1.76

Although, noted in the first reply, 1.78 Windows should be released by month's end. Enjoy the two weeks of parity!

The port for dying light was done in house by tech land. They learned their lesson with Dead Island.
Maybe it really is all cocks in the end.

I wonder what's keeping the Mac/Linux version in beta state for so long.

When I last played it on Mac it had terrible performance issues. Been my experience with everything done by VP.

I think VP has some sort of in-house translation layer, which would definitely decrease performance.

I haven't looked into it into a while, but it's sort of like a wrapper isn't it? That kind of tech will never be as good as native porting.

They have some in-house wrapper that seems appreciably worse than wine and cider. I have seen VPltd do good work but not for many years. The Kult port worked great at the time. Spec Ops: The Line ran fine. But mostly I get a sour taste when I see VP.

Dead Island I'll kind of give a pass because the windows version is a barely functional mess, wrap it up for macOS. What could go wrong.

That's true, both OSs had real bad versions. I don't remember The Line performing very well for me though, but it's been a long time so my memory might be failing me. Riddick was the only game that I've played by them that actually had decent performance.

I guess we shouldn't even talk about the witcher 2 huh?

VP removed more than half of their games from the Mac App Store lately, notably 'DiRT Showdown', probably due to the licensing reasons, and 'Assault on Dark Athena'.
AppShopper still lists all 38 games, now there're only 17 left.

Yeah, Spec Ops was also removed, although the steam version is still live. Shame about Riddick, I liked that game.

If you look at their website they're still very active in porting, so those companies are paying them to port their games and i imagine people are still buying them too. They also appear to have a mobile port division too. They made not be good at these things, but they seem to do a lot of it.
