Upgrading my G4 help
Posted 07 June 2005 - 01:32 PM
If anyone can help point me in the right direction or talk about how reliable/effective/easy it is to deal with. I've installed RAM, internal hard drives, video cards and such so I have some understanding of my box's insides.
Not sure why this is escaping me, any help is appreciated

OWC is a good place to look for processor upgrades.

with the price of a processor upgrade you can buy a Mac mini with extras think about it!'
if you want a benificial upgrade , upgrade the graphics card a 9800 pro is nice

The small form factor and silence are the only discernable advantages it has. And your suggestion for getting a 9800 is silly without the processor upgrade, as 533mhz wouldnt be able to keep up. the only bottleneck would be the system bus, but thats a problem with all G4s. And yes, there will be huge improvement with the basic OS, and importing in itunes and stuff.
If this upgrade will tide him over until the intelimacs then I say go for it. If this is a computer for the next five years, then get a G5 imac or something.
