Shocked: Borderlands 3 performance is not hugely worse than on my Intel Mini + eGPU?! But I guess it makes sense, CPU is often its bottleneck, judging from my fans.

I was surprised by that too. Although my 13" MBP with eGPU benchmark on Borderlands 3 was ~45 FPS (Medium 1080p), so almost double the M1 benchmark, and I would consider it unplayable because it dropped so many frames and actual gameplay was so much worse. My 2012 MBP with the same eGPU gets ~15 FPS (Medium 1080p) in Mac OS and ~55 FPS (Medium 1080p) in Windows and is completely playable and doesn't drop below 30 FPS too often. It's just a really horribly optimized game on Mac.

Do you get 45 fps on Ultra? That was the settings in the video.

I've lost track of all the New Shiny threads, but anyway, 9to5Mac are reporting Crossover running on the M1. Sounds like it might be janky, but who knows.

You must gather your party before venturing forth.

Upgrade what? Your Mac, or Crossover?

I see Witcher 3 is on sale today on GOG. Tempted to give it a go on Crossover myself (on Intel.) But I REALLY shouldn't be starting a big RPG right now.

Current setup: macOS 10.14.x/2018 Mac Mini 3.2GHz i7/16GB RAM/Sonnet Breakaway 650 eGPU w Sapphire Radeon VEGA 56 8GB

Mac. I'm trying to sell my 2016 Macbook at the moment, leaving me with a 2011 Mac Mini. Not much for gaming!

There are noticeable hiccups. I don't see those on m intel iMac. Usually, hiccups in openGL games are due to shader compilation. Perhaps this takes longer on Rosetta, if this involves just-in-time x86 translation. Like x86 web browsers with javascript.
Metal games should not have that issue. But don't count on Valve to update anything in that regard.

OpenGL is implemented over Metal, and Metal has got usually longer shader compilation times.
