Maybe Feral will then have more resources for porting Mac games. It makes sense since Linux has only 0.89% of the user base on Steam while Mac has 2.54%. My impression is that yet many times Linux users have had better support and more ports than us, if I'm not wrong.

The responses to that tweet were interesting to read. You see the same anger and futile arguments that Mac gamers have expressed to publishers over the years.

Also, a troll teases them for playing games on Linux.

It's like seeing ourselves in a mirror.

I guess native linux games will be even more rare than now very soon.
...which is pretty much exactly what the critics of Valve's Proton initiative have predicted.

This certainly is a double-edged sword: on the one hand, Proton brought more games to Linux than porting companies ever could. On the other hand, Proton is no magic bullet: there are compatibility and performance issues, which ultimately never will go away. Their recreation of Microsoft's technologies will ever only play catch up.

And then there are the issues with copy/cheat protection mechanisms, which might or might not be resolved. It remains a gamble.

The performance advantages of running via native Windows are negligible to me (example 1, 2, 3, 4 does 20 fps difference matter if you're getting around 100fps at 1440p anyway? For me, no. Especially if I don't have to deal with Windows)—I've yet to play anything that runs via Proton where I find myself thinking "Damn, I wonder how much better this would play if I installed Windows." About the only things that don't run regard games that use the likes of EAC. My library of playable games have shot up and Valve consistently update Proton to be able to play the latest AAA releases (there's Release and Experimental branches of Proton)—FidelityFX works perfectly under Proton as well…after I figured that out I could give a crap about about getting a 6800 at these crazy prices when Cyberpunk 2077 and Borderlands 3 (games I've been wasting hours in lately) look and play so damned well on my 5700XT at max visual settings (max. visual. settings.).

That being said, were I Feral, et alia, I'd only make sure my games run in Proton rather than work on native ports and avoid EAC were I concerned with Linux.

In Cyberpunk's case, max settings would be with raytracing though, and I don't think that's supported on the 5700 XT.

Dammit, now I need a 6800 again…lol I'm a lot more content with what I have due to FidelityFX right now, and the 5700XT is still a damn good card. I'd still like to upgrade to a 850W PSU before getting a new card too.
