I thought their Boxer and WINE wrappers were 32-bit. How'd they do this one?!

I had to double-check that one myself. But Apple's system profiler says it's 64 bit, and it boots in Mojave without complaint. So
I'm afraid that's a false positive: the GOG games consist of a DOS game in a Boxer wrapper bundled within a GOG launcher. The latter, most outward binary is what the System Profiler sees and is in fact 64-bit. The DOSbox wrapper inside is only 32-bit.

Yeah that explains it. I've corrected my post!

Myst IV & Myst V also have anniversary editions for Mac, which I am surprised to see because I thought Cyan specifically said they wouldn't be able to include those two? It's possible those two are still 32-bit.

Myst IV, V, and Uru are all Wine ports. The Mac versions of all the games were announced at the same time, after the Kickstarter had completed.

Any chance you could give us an update on this massive list? (many things can change in a year after all)

Sorry I've not had much chance to take another look but the ones mentioned by posters above like Batman AC, Borderlands 2 etc. are likely the only ones - I'm not really expecting that many to ever be done.

In case people missed it, the latest update to Stellaris makes it 64-bit. :wiggle:

Though I don't think Crusader Kings II will be getting a 64-bit upgrade. :crybaby:

Glancing over the list, 64-bit options exist now for:

Steam (you need to manually install the latest client)

You're implying trashing the present installation and re-downloading the client?

EDIT: Did that. Worked.

I think Starcraft II and Diablo III can be removed from that list - they both report as 64-bit on my machine. (Since Blizzard added a Metal renderer to Starcraft II I would have been surprised if it wasn't 64-bit, but it needed checking.)

Good point. Seems like a triage move to me. They hit a deadline, either self-imposed or from the Mac App Store, and pulled down everything that wasn't done. So it's possible Pre-Sequel will come back later, but I wouldn't put money on it either way. And I'm probably reading too much into it, but the fact that Bioshock Infinite was a late addition to the list might mean they had been working on it too.

Aspyr on Discord pretty much confirmed your theory:

Quote

Pre-sequel has been pulled from sale because it will not receive an update by the September deadline.
And:

Quote

If we do the HD update for TPS, we'd also combine it with a 64-bit update.

So yeah, it seems likely The Pre-Sequel might make a comback some day, once they get around to updating it.

Might apply to other games as well; That they've been pulled now doesn't necessarily mean they're all gone forever. I had theorized something similar for the Feral games that had been pulled from sale back in December.

WarCraft III has been updated to 64bit and Metal (it seems to run always on the Intel GPU on my MacBook Pro 15", weird :\ ).

  • Tropico 3
  • Tropico 4

I had hope that these games would be ported to 64 bits... :crybaby:  Clearly, their removal indicates they won't. (They've also been removed from Steam.)
Proof: the only 32-bit game I know they're porting to Metal is still on steam and the MAS (Tomb Raider).

Curse you Apple and your pathetic backward compatibility! *shakes fist at the skies* :moreangry:

Probably just means Feral's not certain that they'll have the updates ready until Catalina is out... Has to mean that, right? Right?

Maybe if they take their time there's a greater chance the 64bit-update for Borderlands will also bring Metal support and the visual enhancements.. Heck, I'd gladly pay for it again if I have to.

There were talking on Twitter about releasing a 64bit version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution after 10.15, so maybe there is some hope. But even if they plan to update more games, it will take them a long time.

No more Mafia II for the Mac is a real loss. From the games I've played on a Mac, I'd say Doom 3, Prey, Mafia II and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun are the very best games ever to be released on the platform. Now that Mafia II is also gone, it means 75% of the best Mac games of all time are gone, while the last title hasn't had an update since... ever and just seems to be waiting until Apple kicks its arse out of the Mac App Store for not being a 64-bit app.

The iPad version is great though. After I finished the Mac version I got the iPad version on sale, and I couldn't stop playing it until I'd finished the game again.
