Apparently I missed this. It was originally announced last year, and now has a release date:

Never tried this game out, but I've always preferred the darker aesthetic to Diablo III.

Never played this, but I've played a bit of D3 in my time, and those forums are incessantly trolled by PoE players. So, put me down as curious.
You must gather your party before venturing forth.

I'm always some sort of brute, barbarian class in those games but PoE doesn't appear to offer that. With a freemium model I might check it out tho
macOS 10.15.x/3.5GHZ 8-Core Xeon W-3223 2019 MacPro/48GB RAM/PowerColor RedDevil 5700XT

macOS 10.15.x/Manjario KDE/3.7GHz i7-8700K Hackintosh/64GB RAM/Gigabyte RADEON VII
(my 'world of hurt' that my kids built in a day & is easier to maintain than Windows)

The Marauder’s  Berserker looks pretty close: https://pathofexile....a.com/Berserker

Each class has a specialized subclass so there are more classes than at first glance.

Did hear probably last year that the dev team was interested in releasing a mac os x version of it alongside a iOS port. Windows 7 version as of late doesnt work with GPUs prior to the AMD radeon HD 7850 at least according to steams windows page. Out of luck then.

Cosmetics, supporter packs (they put them up a few months before each expansion, and supporters get exclusive cosmetics, forum titles, and stuf like that), and some very minor in-game stuff - nothing that affects character power, but the main one is several forms of extra stash tabs (some that hold more but only certain types of items, ones you can rename. Ones that are color coded, or combinations thereof.). You dont NEED them if youre good at paring down your inventory (the default is like 8 or 9 tabs IIRC), but, honestly, ive thrown maybe 20$ On them, and since ive got well over 120 hours into the game, and its a genuinely good game, i dont regret that at all.  Honestly, if i still played regularly, id probably have bought supporter packs just because theyre a good company that listens to he players and produces a quality game, and in the long run the $/fun times ratio would still be absurdly good.

There are dozens of good melee builds.  The “Class” only determines where you start on Skilldrasill.  You could start at Witch and still end up as a facetanking melee machine.  It wouldnt be optimal, but it could be done (and some of the Unique items can enable builds that otherwise make ZERO sense to be downright amazing).  Starting at Marauder or Duelist would be better, but its all possible.  Theres even a class (that had to be unlocked?  I dont recall, but probably not anymore) That starts in the exact middle of the tree and can enable some truly weird builds.  Then they recently-ish added the sub-classes which kind of hammer down on very specific playstyles.

In fact, the reason im not currently playing is because the choices can sometimes be overwhelming, and i got kind of ... lost?  And put the game down for a while, and they have since added so much NEW stuff that its kept me from coming back because i know it would swallow me for months and im trying to clear my single player game queue.

Its a genuinely good game, though, and the studio is very in touch with their player base and they produce TONS of new content all the time, and have a raft of specialist “Leagues” and Playtypes (the Leagues are usually time-limited, and the most popular ones stick around as alternate full-time server types, like Solo Self Found (cant group, cant trade), which the Hardcores really like) that change the game in sometimes significant ways.  Theres a LOT to do, but it can get very complicated.  Its not simplified down like D3, its like D2 and they went “but what if we add like ten times more variables/stats, plus pseudo-classless, oh, and Skilldrasill” - and that is where they STARTED at the game launch and theyve added even more stuff since.  Its not for the faint of heart.  Thankfully, the forums are friendly and there are lots of guides out there.

Just a little update on the Mac release of Path of Exiles:

Quote

Our intention was to release an experimental copy of the macOS Path of Exile client around a week ago, so that community members could test it before its official release tomorrow alongside Heist. A series of last-minute unexpected technical problems meant that we only had this client distributable today. Our new plan is to release this experimental client immediately for feedback from adventurous macOS users, and to officially release on Mac in around a week.

For more information including the experimental Mac version dmg you'll find it here:

https://www.pathofex.../2936392/page/1

Note that there are issues with it apparently and according to at least one user it requires 10.15, so I don't think I'll be giving this a shot anytime soon given that I'll lose access to all my 32 bit applications if I install Catalina.
