If it's not going to be cross-platform playable I'm going to pass entirely. That Black Ops Mac experience turned my tongue green.

Exactly. The worst thing is the incompatibility is due to contract and not because of technical issues (at least Aspyr said that). Multiplayer is soon to become ghosttown. Less than 100 players accross 4-5 servers. Very sad.

I think so too. I hope to see Mac-to-PC multiplayer available someday.

Aspyr is definitely doing this port because Aspyr-Blair gave a bean to Trautman, as he also gave a bean to Bifbologna when he/she figured out that Bioshock Infinite was on its way to OS X.

Doesn't it seem a little late to port MW3 over to Mac? We've already had 2 cod's since then, and pretty much the whole COD community is either still playing cod4, or has moved on to blops2/ghosts

I did find it a bit odd myself, but it is the next CoD after CoD:BO which I suppose is the reason they wanted to port it. All though there is absolutely no releation between the games, other than that they're both part of the CoD franchise. It was also well recieved among the reviewers which is a pluss I guess.

That said, I don't mind getting a new mindless shooter ported to OS X and you can never go wrong with CoD. You simply get what you expect.

Not really. According to the Steam statistics, there are still around 10,000 (± a few hundred) people playing MW3 multiplayer every day, compared to 11,000 playing Ghosts and 12,000 playing BlOps2. That's still pretty strong. MW2 for instance has "only" around 7000 players, BlOps1 even less than 3000.

I see. Is MW3 regarded as one of the better COD's then ? I always thought it was regarded as kinda bad compared to MW2 and blops.

Granted, I haven't played much COD since MW2

How does this in anyway indicate cross platform play? It simply lists the Mac versions of the game which already exists on steam separately. Or am I missing something?

The Mac version was listed previously completely independently (that entry still is available). A single, common database entry for Windows and Mac versions is a sign of a SteamPlay release. And those usually have cross-platform multiplayer.

According to that database entry's history page, the Mac depots have been added 10 months ago, though. That does not really look like anything is really imminent there.
