I had almost given up on that one, but here it is.

Wow.  Since Big Huge Games (Brain Reynolds) did it for Ensemble, I think it's worth a purchase.

Sweeeet. This one looks *much* better than WarChiefs. I'm especially excited about the much-needed interface tweaks. From the Gamespy review: (4.5/5)

Quote

In fact, these are improvements Ensemble should have made long ago. With them, the core gameplay is more manageable. There are more detailed tooltips, better and more flexible hotkeys, and an incredibly helpful button that lets you summon your entire army, above and beyond the 50-unit selection limit (which Big Huge, sadly, wasn't able to circumvent). You can select units by type, map-wide. You can rally all military buildings to a single location. You can queue build orders in multiple buildings at once. Ever play an expansion or sequel and then realize you can never go back to its predecessor because you've been spoiled by the new? Asian Dynasties is like that.

And elephants! Can't wait. :D

At least an expansion getting released for AoE3 will further fan the flames of my seething rage and bitterness about Civ4: BTS not showing up. A fella can never be too filled with rage and bitterness. It's nice to have that good old fashioned edge to ya. Keeps people on their toes. They never know when you're going to launch into a Civ4: BTS fueled spittle spewing, tongue gnashing, apoplectic fit.

A man after mine own heart. Want to get coffee some time? I can't drink any, mind you, but you could use a hug. I've been there. Mostly I just use it to keep me warm at night, now. As long as Apple's the butt of gamer jokes everywhere I'll be able to save up for retirement.

I've been lamenting the absence of this expansion pack for a year.  Excited to see it's finally coming (after having written if off long ago).

actually, in this case its Havok's fault (pre-intel buy out). For quite some time they wouldnt licensetheir physics engine (which AOE3 uses) to the mac at a reasonable price. So MacSoft decided to replace the physics engine with PhysX (Now owed by Nvidia). Obviously, thats gonna take a lot of work (I think port time took around a year of solid work)...

Not having seen the original PC version of AOEIII I'll add that the new engine for the Mac version is great.  They really did a good job on the port.

Looks like this might be released on Tuesday, July 8.

The reviews are generally good (GameSpot 7.5/10, IGN 8/10, GameSpy 4.5/5) and I'm so close to ordering it.

Excellent news!  Since getting my new iMac a few weeks ago, I admit to having lost countless hours to AoE III & I've just ordered "The War Chiefs".  As I'm buying Mac-native where possible, I'll be buying this for sure in the next few weeks.  The screenshots look brilliant!  Well done & many thanks to MacSoft!

I'll second that & I'm sure "Asian Empires" will be no less an achievement!  If only all ports were as good as these AoE games.

Happy to see that MacSoft will continue to support their games.

I'm looking at you Aspyr and your lack of "support" to continue CivIV  :glare:
