As has been said before, the companies don't even do Mac versions (except for Blizzard, mostly). Different companies (the porting houses) do Mac versions. If you're asking for the porting houses to announce a release, sometimes they can't due to contracts, and even when they can, they get nailed big time if there are any delays.

I meant the company making the Mac version should announce they are making it as soon as they know they are going to be doing it. They don't need to give an exact release date or even a vague "Fall 2020", but simply say "the Mac version is coming / planned" to save people buying the Windoze version unnecessarily.

If they stick to this rather silly "announce it when it's ready to ship" nonsense, then the already small Mac games market is simply going to vanish completely as people buy the Windoze version rather than wait for the "might / might not" Mac release.

I thought we explained why it's not nonsense.  Also if the Mac games market was going to disappear because of that, it would already have done so by now.  I'm sorry you apparently end up on the wrong side of this policy, but that's the way it goes--can't please everyone, as the non-stick guy said.  Ideally more companies would start doing Mac versions themselves so this whole thing could be avoided, but sadly it's not an ideal world.

IMO, the majority of "Mac gamers" are casual players only; they don't care when the game is released, if it will run AAx78183 or Bloom of Death +10, or the price. They go to the Apple store on occasion, see a game they like, and buy it. THey don't go on IMG to check the release date months in advance. We here at IMG are definitly a small minority. There IS a reason Apple doesn't like us, they dont want to spend money on us crazy people. Their solution was Bootcamp, and if it weren't for the efforts of the porting houses, we wouldn't have a single AAA title (Blizzard is an exception). We should be glad to get a few good titles a year. Apple isn't doing s**t.

The porting houses should feel no obligation other then to tell us at IMG, that a game is coming, other then a week or two in advance. Look at Fate: the publisher didn't announce diddly squat for like a week after it was released. Last Saturday it was running on half the iMacs in the Apple store.

And FYI not many people will pay the extra $125+ to get Windows just for games. There are plenty of Mac users who don't know anything about Bootcamp, and especially VMware, parallels or Crossover.

For the same reason HTML doesn't. Use [pre]pre[/pre] if you want tabs.

Maybe.

Edit: If we were using better software, anyway.

Kids!
I don't know what's wrong with these kids today!
Kids!
Who can understand anything they say?
Kids!
They are so ridiculous and immature!
I don't see why anybody wants 'em!
Just you wait and see
Kids!
Kids! They are just impossible to control!
(Soon you'll be old enough to be)
Kids! With their awful clothes and their rock an' roll!
(Another teenage delinquent)
Why can't they be like you were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids to--
Kids!
What the devil's wrong with these kids today?
Kids!
Who could guess the they would turn out that way!
Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids?
What's the matter with kids?
What's the matter with kids today?

I don't think anyone actually got the point I was making so I give up wasting my time trying. Looks like some of us are going to be stuck paying twice for the same game or missing out completely until someone out there sees common sense and properly announces up-coming Mac titles.  :(

I believe its the other way around. You simply refused to listen to all the responses, so the others gave up trying to smack sense into you.

Oh, we totally got your point.  It was explained a number of times why they can't do what you want, and why it's not just a matter of "common sense".  It's just not that simple, sorry.  I think we all agree that it's annoying, but the alternative (which we've been through a number of times) is even more annoying.  You should realize that the people running the porting houses aren't stupid, and they do what they do for a reason, and that reason is not "hey, let's piss off Buzz Bumble!"  Probably.  ;)

You didn't say it was difficult to read..  nothing amiable.  Just 'I don't like the formatting, so I'm not reading it.' Obnoxious post, obnoxious response. Thank you for playing.

PC gaming is losing its variety and its penetration.  Say whatever you will about WoW, Sims, Sins of a Solar Empire etc  . . . The gaming industry is taking a healthy focus on consoles first, PCs second, and as such, Macs third.  As Teflon noted with his post about getting GoW and UT3 for the PC due to impatience for the Mac ports... with the accessibility of Boot Camp, doesn't it seem Mac ports are becoming less relevant?  I see posts about "I hope they port it" or "I'll wait for the port."  That seems kind of like saying: "I like this new feature BMW put into the new 3-series, so I'll just wait for other automakers to embrace it and then I'll have it on my car."  Seems a bit self-defeating in the long run.

I've said none of those things. I haven't been around for the entire history of this forum, and I do not read EVERY thread available.  Therefore I cannot help but to potentially repeat discussions that may or may not have occurred ad nauseum.  I did wish to discuss it though, otherwise I wouldn't have posted.  My post intended to foster a discourse, yours was to do nothing but show disinterest. Isn't disinterest best shown by simply not responding?

All's cool, man. Plenty of different discussions go on here most of the time, with lots of disagreements, lots of tongue-in-cheek humour.  Mac gaming?  Some days I think it's struggling, other days I feel that my pessimism is unfounded.  Frankly, anyone who's a hard-core gamer is probably better off Boot Camping it for all the PC-exclusives or owning a console in addition to their Mac. But for many gamers there are only so many gaming hours in a day &, with some exceptions, Mac games offer quality gaming aplenty.  I tend to play games to completion & never use cheats, so it'll be ages before I play through all the excellent Mac stuff, with more Mac gaming excellence coming to the platform shortly.

FWIW, I think the PC games market is wholly over-saturated, riddled with piracy & games lose value too quickly. Mac games are relatively expensive, but they maintain their value & the Mac games market is relatively free of the kind of (said) woes afflicting the PC games market - something that more developers may find increasingly appealing in future as Mac market share grows. As for the growth in console gaming - I think it matters very little to dedicated PC/Mac gamers as there are far too many games that are unplayable without a KB. I think both can easily co-exist. Bear in mind that Sony & MS lost billions (MS about $20 billion) on establishing their console markets - enormous sums that are very unlikely to be risked again anytime soon.

You aren't expected to know the history of the forum, anybody that thinks you are is mistaken.  Also in like manner, there is no such thing as a zombie thread here.  Feel free to talk about what you want, but keep in mind that some folks have heard it before too many times and will beef about it.  Don't let it get you down, if you have folks willing to discuss it then just ignore any of the rude replies.
